So I binged watched the ten-episode series this weekend. It is based on a series of Novellas by Martha Wells. It takes place in a far off future where people are in different civilizations with vastly different extreme ideals. One of them is a business corporation that employs all the people that live in its area of controlled space, mostly via indenture servitude that they have to work off for decades. The other faction we get to see is the other extreme. It's an alliance of planets that have what I can only describe as a liberal commune of scientists. They have to make a deal with the corporation to supply their mission to a world on the out skirts of civilization, and one of the stipulations is that they have to take a Security Unit with them. The security unit is a terminator style robot, as it is a robot that has a set of living tissue around him, complete with energy weapons built into his forearms. What they don't know is that the cheap older model that they picked out, had already hacked himself, and loves to watch tens of thousands of hours of crappy TV programming, mainly watching this star trek style show called "The Rise and Fall of Sanctuary Moon" which you see tons of throughout the series, which features a lot of famous actors.

So hijinks ensue, especially when they discover gaps in their provided maps and they go to investigate. I don't want to get into details of the plot as I don't want to spoil the series, so go watch it. The series has a great cast, featuring Alexander Skarsgård as the Security Unit. It has a tight ten-episode season story that could stand alone, however, there is a second season already in production. Season 2 is predicted to come out next year.

So has anyone else seen this series?
