Metal Cardbot coming to the US

Stumbled across this among the assorted Toy Fair coverage, but online retailer/Distributor Agabyss had a booth at Toy Fair. In addition to coverage for Blokees and a platform for BOSS Fight Studio, they revealed that they were working on bringing over Korean transforming robot series Metal Cardbot to the US this fall.

FWIW, BBTS has listings for some of these for preorder, but they are all sold out. Not sure if the listing dropped early, or if they truly sold out that fast. The pirate ship bot looks interesting.

I managed to get orders in for the pirate ship and ninja helicopter before they sold out. Of course, knowing BBTS's record lately, I expect to find them all in store first.

It does look like Agabyss has preorders available. Not sure how they are to buy from, though, as I've never dealt with them...

Yep, BBTS will be sending me my robot pirate ship. Can't wait.

I had to ship my PoL today. 😞 I waited as long as I could, but I will have to wait for my robot pirate ship until the next shipment.

So my first impressions on Steel Hook...
He's super simple, but in a good way and feels very Cybertron/Galaxy Force. He's got heavy ratchets but you get all the articulation you need, even if it's lacking compared to modern Transformers. The transformation isn't perfect, his arms are very clearly the back of the ship, but it's also a robotic pirate ship so I give some leeway there. The transformation is a bit clunky and not as thought out as a modern Transformer, but it's a very minor quibble. He's a great first impression and overall I'm very impressed. I'll be getting Heavy Iron next.

Today's Transformers designers took time to get as good as they are. These guys aren't there yet, but they've got the spirit.

Yeah. There's some roughness. Transformation steps that clash into each other, stuff that should probably fold away but doesn't... but overall? This is a good first showing.

I picked up two of these guys at Dairycon. They look neat and are fun and chunky like Transformers of the past. Might get some more....bonus...I live down the road from Agabyss

I have two minor issues with Steel Hook. First, I wish his head hid better (or at all) in alt mode, and second, his bicep swivels are really squeaky. He's otherwise a nice, chunky toy.

Shadow X I'm less enthused with. Mostly because the legs kinda suck. The knees only bend about 45 degrees, and the ankles are static. I think the ankles could be modified with a Dremel and a steady hand, but the knees are pinned. Less than ideal for a ninja.

Turns out four of the six got renamed by Agabyss, only Heavy Iron and Shadow X kept their original names (although none of the new names is TOO different). Currently reviewing Blue Star (nee Blue Cop).

Hey, do any of you have Bluster Gale's instruction sheet? Mine is missing his, and given that I missed a step on Blue Star it'd be nice to have a scan of Bluster's. (I used Agabyss's contact form last night, but haven't heard back yet.)

Heavy Iron is another winner. Just big, chunky, clicky fun. Like Steel Hook, his transformation scheme suffers from a few steps that awkwardly smash into each other. He is, other than that, however, great fun.
