My wife said "You chose...wisely" the other day, and I totally counted it as the Last Crusade reference it was, even though she didn't know it was a Last Crusade reference. Movie references are kind of a game/second language in my family, so I awarded her the points.

Tldr, if it's a reference, I feel like it counts as long as it's used in the correct context.
