You know, come to think of it, I think The Rock was actually the first Michael Bay film I ever watched. I actually have the Criterion set.

It still has some really bad issues, but it's probably the only Bay film I actually still like. I used to like Armageddon, but...well...let's just say there's some personal issues with that one that actually don't have anything to do with the movie.

I kindof enjoy Bays The Island. It is heavily flawed, but i can still have fun with it. The Rock is superior.

It also had Michael Biehn in it at about the time I was first getting into Terminator, Aliens and The Abyss.

I wouldn't discover Tombstone until much later.

I just want to make clear, as much as I may love The Rock, I still hate Bay with a passion for what he did to Transformers

I don't know. His run on Transformers gave me two of my favorite theater experiences ever.

#1 is TF07. I saw it on preview night. The audience started applauding when Prime's final speech was wrapping up. It was actually the first time I'd actually witnessed a theater audience applauding. And after months and months of months of "It's going to bomb and Transformers will be ruined forever!" doomposting, it was a nice feeling. We made it. Things are going to be okay after all.

#2 is AOE. What a horrible movie. On top of it, my showing was a disaster. The 3D projection started out of sync and very blurry, but watching the image get fixed and turn into 3D was kinda cool. Then the projector totally died. One member of the audience walked out and raised righteous hell in the lobby until it got fixed. Bless that madlad. It was beautiful. In the meantime the audience had nothing to do, so we started chatting and developed a real camaraderie by the time the movie resumed. Bad movies are always better with friends.

This is basically my exact sentiment about Shin Godzilla. It's not a great Godzilla movie (Hideaki Anno is, in my opinion, an internet troll who makes anime and movies) and borrows too much from Evangelion, but going to see it with my brother and the crowd of Godzilla fans who were there when it was in theaters was one of my favorite movie experiences ever
