Something in Night Cap's chest feels funny as he gets no response.

Bittersweet, maybe? She's saved, at last. It's curious. This long awaited reunion has gone nothing like he imagined, but exactly as it should. The job is done.

As always, it's time to get back to work.

"Indeed. We have the ponies and the tools to keep that wand safe from the malicious use of ponies and keep ponies from the malicious use of that wand. Hitting it might only proke and unhealthy reaction.

Something to store the wand in for transit, s0mething to bind TAKE with for transit and the return of our missing ponies. All would be appreciated. Once done, we will depart and leave ypu to your work."

Moving over to Static, Scarlet lowered his head and whispered.

"You deserve a medal for this!"

Static grinned. "I've never been one to stand on ceremony. I'm just glad this all had a happy ending." He gave a glance to Dazzling Midnight and Silent Belle. "And that old enemies could become new friends. Not every day that happens. Worth much more than any medal."

*gasp* "How about a reinforced and magnetized net that's covered in fine grain glitter?" "I think he means in the category of medical, boss." "Oh, I don't really know. I guess for the moment, bring a few tulips for them. Be sure to bring the right ones." The worker rushed off. Meanwhile, Dazzling Midnight volunteered to speak with Brisk Iron first when they returned.

Maple feels Sad for Mr. Night Cap, he had wanted this to go a different way, clearly but the question he askes Tipsy Tulip was enough to remind Maple that she could be doing something more useful right now.

"Miss Tulip, Hello, down and over here... My name is Maple. Yes over here, as a duly appointed representative of the Keep Marketing department I would like to speak with you about how we can help each other form a more legitimate relationship going forward. I believe you may recall the recent incident on your train where some of us created contraptions out of parts from your cart... while I'm very much thankful for whatever it is your associate has gone to retrieve in regards to my friends and I's current medical needs, I would like to take the time now to work out a licensing agreement with you. As you know, our designs were our own - but without your help they simply wouldn't exist... what would you say to a 50/50 share of any and all future profits gained from the use of these devices and 75% of the sales of future copies of them, your percentage going up of course because -I can't think of anyone better to partner with for manufacturing."

Maple Squeezes Misty again before getting to her hooves and pulling the mane styler from it's hiding spot -aptly her mane. "I'm not sure what parts are even involved in the construction of this device so we wouldn't be able to recreate it -and I suspect the others as well -on our own, and it only seems fair to me to include you on this since we're all having a nice and calm friendly moment right now. Perhaps you or our other new friend Miss Midnight would like to try it... for some reason it very much made me feel better when I tried it out the first time. AH yes... the 'Manetamer' ...oh that's a perfect catchy name... because it totally says what it does and is a little cheeky joke about maintenance..." Maple can't help giggle at how quickly she came up with the name once she switched into marketing mode.

Static noticed Maple getting ready to say something. Given the grumps she was going through earlier with Dazzling, he was close tonadmonishing her to keep quiet lest she ruined the diplomacy they'd worked so hard to create.

Then he grinned asshe went into her sales pitch, not that he understood much of it. Marketing was a truly confusing language. But he couldn't help butbe impressed, and happy that Maple seemed in good spirits again.

[Why Ms. Jack! Are you trying to make an honest mare out of Tipsy?]

He decided to sit back and watch. He could use the break.

Night Cap opens his mouth to speak to Tipsy Tulip again.

Maple feels Sad for Mr. Night Cap, he had wanted this to go a different way, clearly but the question he askes Tipsy Tulip was enough to remind Maple that she could be doing something more useful right now.

Night Cap closes his mouth.

I think i'm just going to stand here and quietly accept the madness of Maple proposing a business deal to the mad inventor who'll sell to anypony and was, until recently, quite happily planning to lock us up.
Good luck Maple.

Voice still low, Scarlet spoke again to stop.

"Have i cracked, or is this really happening?"

Good luck Maple.

Voice still low, Scarlet spoke again to stop."Have i cracked, or is this really happening?"

Static gives a wistful smile back at Scarlet. "Yeeeeah, they grow up so quickly. She makes this work, that's another friend gained today. Princess Twilight would be so proud!"

...

"Twilight, right? The one based out of Ponyville? Twilight Twinkle or something? Honestly, I have such problems with remembering the ones that aren't the original two sisters!"

With a low chuckle, Scarlet nodded.

"You don't have to be crazy to be in STOMP, but it helps.

Hmm... Twilight... Sparkle, i think. She's apparently quite the bookworm too. Although i kinda prefer Luna, like you. Or possibly Cadence. She's got a lovely singing voice they say."

Now that the situation, if not sane, but settled. Scarlet looked around, his eyes falling on the groups Unicorn members.

"Symphony and Wander need tending to now things have calmed down. Night Cap, until our Tulip friend over there brings her... tulips to help. Could you check over Wander and Symphony please?"

Not being any kind of medic, Scarlet could do little other than look over the pair to see if they were anything other than just unconscious.

"The tulips do seem to be farther away than I hoped. I'll see what my gear can do. It can't hurt to get started."

Can it?

Hmm, he chooses Wanderlust first. This one looks less delicate. He opens his med-kit and begins his work.

"That sounds intriguing and I might possibly be able to offer even more favorable terms on a condition: I'll need to first see field test results of how well they work in action. I'll give you an envelope with my current temporary mailing address to send the results to." Several workers returned. Some had a box inside a box inside a box that they used long tongs to place the wand in. Others had a mortar and pestle that they were crushing some tulips with. Meanwhile, Tipsy Tulip effortlessly wiped the ink off Scarlet Spectrum's face with her hoof.

Scarlet blinked.

What did she...?

Oh.

"uh. Thank you, i think."

Static rubs his chin. "Say, Ms. Tulip, if we can iron something out, I think I have a project I'm in the middle of right now that could be...lucrative...for both of us. I'm working on a boat that can go underwater for sustained periods of time. I have the basic plans all written up. My interest in it is just to have a working model. You see, my marefriends a seapony and I want to be able to see her world. That's my interest."

"But I need workers. It's a big project for just one pony, after all. In return, I could let you copy my notes and plans. Maybe you'd even be able to make some improvements on my design."

Static looked around at the others before answering. "Are friends, the wand, TAKE ponies in custody, Maple has a temporary way to keep in contact...I believe that's everything."

[Far better outcome than I'd hoped for when we started!]

"I trust this won't be the last time we meet?"

"I think that for the moment, the best way to answer both of your questions is 'maybe'. But for now, I believe it's time for you to go." With the tulip mixture ready, it was fed to the injured team members who rapidly healed. The captured explorers were brought to the STOMP team and then the whole group was led through winding corridors to a lake with a deluxe sized mechanized paddle-wheel raft. One larger but quite similar to the one owned by Splash Flaunt. They were given directions on how to follow the water to a safe spot to disembark. They were also alerted that after a set time, the entire contraption would fall to pieces so urgency was of the utmost importance.

After some travel, the group reached the Keep research station they originally departed from. Contact was made, both to update Brisk Iron and to hail the royal guard so that TAKE could be taken away. Finally, after a long day, Dazzling Midnight stood outside the threshold of Brisk Iron's office. She seemed awkward but ready. Turning to Static Signal, she said,
"This is likely to be a long night for me. After this, I'll need to speak with the police and give them all my information about COIN's actions for the past few decades. But...Static? Thank you for not joining us that night. Who knows where we all would be now if you took that offer."

Static gave Dazzling a smile, for he had actually had that very same thought many times, never pleasantly. But now as he stood here beside her..."It is funny the twists life throws at us sometimes. Somehow, I think even if I had joined you that night, we wouldn't have been friends. I just wasn't the kind of pony who made friends back then and I don't think I would've become that pony in COIN. Here though? I'm honestly glad you decided to join us."

"Oh, and if you ever feel like socializing, you can often find me at Ocean Dive's Night Club on a Friday."

...

"They serve non-alcholic drinks as well."

And from there, she departed for her meeting. It had been a long day and everyone knew that they needed to get some rest. Symphony went home and fell asleep with thoughts on her mind about some of the Professor's recent worries. The land of dreams took her to a very quiet forest that had just begun to gently snow. However, the snow began to worsen, whipping into a full fledged blizzard. Running to try to find shelter, Symphony barely dodged hail that was nearly as big as Maplejack. Then, she arrived at a pristine lake. Something sinister in the water was watching her. The water level began to slowly rise as the storm continued. Could this be happening? She had to wake up. She had to...

Misty Monsoon awoke with a start. Once again, she saw the same vision of the sun that she had seen previously. A feeling of dread washed over her but there was also an odd cold. Looking down from her cloud, she saw a sleeping Symphony lying on the beach...surrounded by a two mile blanket of snow. This wasn't in the forecast at all, the skies were clear, the air was warm. And then in that moment she realized it,

There was something wrong with the world.

What beholds this frigid nightmare and just what is wrong with the world? Tune in next time folks for more of the Equestrian Radio Show's Adventure Variety Hour!

[Much missing]

[Everyone talks a big game about beating the Snow Shark.]

[Someone says "We'll bop him on his nose."]

It's at this moment that Night Cap realizes he has no plan to defeat the Snow Shark, but it sounds like everyone else has that quite covered.

[Much missing]

It's unclear if Night Cap is currently kept warm by his vibrating since hearing they'll be working with a band of Royal Guards or if the base actually has working heating this time.

He therefore cannot be too careful.

"I have a coat but I'd happily take another one."

"Or three."

...

"I don't get along with snow."

I have the coolest job.

"So who knows how to pilot these things?"

"Hmm, 'Nightsignal' does sound kinda superheroey..."

Night Cap may not be entirely following this conversation.

Maple's head rubbing comes to an abrupt stop with a gasp of exclamation

"OOOOHHHH! ..we should call it ED... as in E. D. for Expedition Dirigible... that way once we beat the Snow shark we can say we S.T.O.M.P.E.D it!"

Maple squeaks ... like a squeeze toy she's so overwhelmed with 'ohmygosh-ness'

"That is..." he starts out offended, not quite catching on to the fact that Maple had thankfully changed the subject, "...actually not bad," he adds in a calmer tone once it sinks in what Maple had actually said. "Nice thinking, Maple."

"WHY would you fly on your own? We have an airship. How cool is that?"

Night Cap just sits quietly. It would be very unprofessional to laugh like a maniac, imagining himself to be an evil genius in a flying fortress, in front of the Chief Director.

Night Cap begins scratching items of his mental list of things to do.

Please wait...

Night Cap steps out into the cold and... is surprisingly okay.

"I got one of those!"

[I never should have let Scarlet go!]

[Rain's important to him. If it were Anchors...]

[Never should've split the group.]

Static looks to Maple.

"Maple, you have a way of making ponies hear you from long distances. Get word to Night Cap and Scarlet to get back here now. We need to get out of here."

He looked to Amaroq. "We were just going to have ponies on the outside wake us up if we were in trouble. If we can start tossing and turning...but that would only work for those of us who are physically in Warning Sound. Do you have any suggestions?"

"What if Mister Spectrum has not found her yet?" Maple asks... looking between Static and Misty. On one hoof Static is right, they need to leave... on the other hoof, if she were in Scarlet's place could she leave without finding Misty...

Maple thinks for a moment about Static's plan... there's something in the middle of it...

"I wonder, were I to use my magic to call out from within the dream world... if it would work for those ponies not with our bodies... if for example -were I to say... 'EMERGENCY ! Please wake up the sleeping pony you find at this location!' ... would that work? Or what if I just tried to wake everypony up with a shout from inside this dream?"

[If it were Anchors...]

Static hissed through his teeth. "I don't know how much you can say in a single message, but tell them that we're leaving. It's an emergency evac. Either get back here for extraction or they're on their own." I'll wait as long as it seems safe before I forcefully wake them from the outside. Then do whatever you can to wake us all up."

"Misty, I... you should leave with Mister Signal and the others if my call doesn't work, if those we have rescued that sleep beyond the boarder of the town remain here in this nightmare - you two will have the best chance to regroup and set about saving them from that side... I will wait for Mister Spectrum's party to return... it would not be prudent to just assume they heard me since distance has little meaning here."

Call Out (2) – At Will
You let out a loud call. You make it clear if your call is meant as a warning, distress call, etc. Choose one:

A) Name any number of creatures that could recognize your voice. They hear your howl automatically and know how far away from them you are and in what direction.

"MISS RAIN, SCARLET IS ON HIS WAY, BUT WE ARE RUNNING OUT OF TIME, IT WONT MAKE SENSE BUT THIS IS MAGIC - YELL AS LOUDLY AS YOU CAN TELL HIM HOW FAR AWAY WE ARE AND BY WHAT DIRECTION... MISTER NIGHT CAP, PLEASE HELP THEM WAKE UP ONCE THE THREE OF YOU ARE TOGETHER!"

Maple's call rings out into the ether...

"Mister Signal, as I said, I will now wait here for them just in case... please go, and hopefully either I will see you again with Mister Spectrum and Mister Night Cap, or shortly after if my call worked and you then wake me up."

Maple gives Misty the lightest of kisses not wanting this to feel like a goodbye... as she waited for Static to start his wake up evacuation plan

"Scarlet? I hear somepony calling me? I can't tell from where but they said they're running out of time and that a 'Mister Night Cap' needs to wake us up."

Amaroq thought for a moment, then replied to Static Signal, "If we could change the nature of the dream, that could cause it to force us out. The other possibility is finding a way to teleport or power our way out. I'm not sure how we would achieve that. I'll return after I go back to get the rest of the ponies we rescued."

Scarlets head snapped up. Staring around as he tried (in vain) to figure out where Rains voice was coming from.

"Night Cap, i think we have a problem.

Rain just called out. Somepony on the team managed to call her... Maybe Maple? Anyway, Rain says time is running out and that you might need to help try and wake us all up.

Does that mean what i think it means. That this dreamworld might be unravelling? If so, we need to find Rain, right now. I can't leave her stuck here. Not when i'm this close!"

Staring down the tunnel, Scarlet yelled.

"RAIN! CAN YOU SEE ANYTHING IF WHERE YOU ARE? ANY HINT OR CLUE? WE'RE CLOSE I PROMISE! NIGHT CAP IS WITH ME, WE ARE GETTING YOU OUT OF HERE!"

Static nodded at Amaroq. "Just tell me what you need me to do. But whatever we're going to do, let's do it quickly."

[But try to give Scarlet as much time as we can give him.]

"Could be the dream unraveling. Could be the universe unraveling. But that's never happened to me yet. Let's just find your friend and get out of here."

"I can't see anything...but I can hear you. You're closer than you've ever been before. It's so cold." While they saw fog before them, Night Cap and Scarlet Spectrum realized that the void they passed through wasn't actually cold but the fog was.

After Amaroq returned with the last of the ponies, she said, "I'm used to rescuing ponies and fighting nightmares but not so much ending a dream. I'm used to getting out or simply waking up. I'm sure it would greatly hurt the Snow Shark more than any traditional attack, though. By the way, what was that big rock you found?"

Static looked back to the rock he was looking at. "It's part of a banishing circle I saw in the real world once. It was used to banish a big Coal Caimen to a river outside of a cave that the circle was in. I don't know what it's doing here, but it's only part of it. If we had the whole thing maybe..."

Static tries to see if he could remember the rest of the writing.

"The Universe...?

Huh...

Well... let's hope it isn't that,"
Scarlet said as he felt a tiny shudder run up his spine.

"Ok, it sounds like we're closer to Rain than ever. Fog was always there when i dreamed so...

I mean, it sounds like she's in this fog. Also, this fog is the only cold here.

So then, how do we get in to this fog and get her out without getting lost outselves?"

Scarlet tried to feel for anything magical about the fog.

"Rain! If we're closer, any chance you can tell which direction we're coming from compared to you? Is my voice in front of you? Behind? To the side?"

Scarlet Spectrum could tell there was magic in the fog, just like the rest of the nightmare. But he could sense the subtle differences. "You're in front of me, I think."

As Static Signal began to remember the banishing circle, more of it began to appear. Soon, there was 3/4 of the circle. However, the group heard a distant sound far above them...

"Go to her. When you find her, follow my voice so you can find your way back out."

Though he was a little unwilling to split up, as events he couldn't fully understand seemed to be speeding up, Scarlet nodded. Then he pulled out his lasso and started unwinding it all the way. Tying one end around his waist, Scarlet gave the other end to Night Cap.

"Agreed. Hmm. This fog is strange. Its magical, but not quite in the same way as everything else in this realm.

Anyway...

Once i find her, i'll call and you can start winding in the rope and guiding me back. Keep your eyes and ears peeled dreamwalker."

And with that, Scarlet dove into the fog and the cold.

"Rain, start calling out! I'm in the fog now, so keep calling and i'll come to you!"

Scarlet Spectrum heard Rain Juggler's voice in the darkness but the fog presented some challenge to navigating the shifting dreamscape.

6aRZuof.png

Lieutenant Sledgehammer said, "I remember Major Key saying he sent a copy of a film reel about banishing circles to the Keep. Never got to look at it but I guess it's something I need to brush up..." There was a rumbling and Lieutenant Sledgehammer jumped out of the way of a large icy spire erupting from the ground. It was five times taller than she was and curved...like a tooth. With multiple similar sounds overhead, panic erupted among the other ponies.

Static growled as he saw the spires erupting from the ground. "Well I sure as Tartarus hope you can brush up under pressure! I need you over here." He then looked to his other allies. "Maple, try and calm these ponies down. Everyone else who is not panicking, give me and the Lieutenant all the time you can give us. We need to get this thing up and working or we're all trapped here."

I'm not sure if this is General Knowledge (14), Arcana (0), or Technology (8). So I'll just give the base roll and let the GM decide. I'm trying, with Lieutenant Sledgehammer, to get the circle completed.

Maple was on her way over to calm the other ponies... though she wondered how best to do that when she looked like something that belonged in a nightmare world... but to get there she had to look at the fragmented banishing circle.

oh no, Maple, don't look at it.

Maple looked at it... and instantly knew she should have listened to her inner voice... She had seen this spell before... Up in the air, Crafted by the sun and moon Princesses... suddenly everything that hadn't made sense now did... this was why the spell had taken her memory ... the time lock spell was just a variant of this...

parts of the glyph that were missing filled in thanks to Maple's ironically fantastic photographic memory including the added elements for the time lock... but they quickly vanished as she realized they weren't needed for the original spell.

this was the most 'ic' way I could think of for adding the bonus to Static's skill check without some weird psychic conversation or something. XD

The fog was thick, dark and so dense that all sound was muffled. Ushing his way through, Scarlet slowed to a crawl as he tried to focus purely on Rains voice. Breathing slowly, Scarlet worked his way forward, wings open to their fullest, forehooves sliding from side to side as he moved. It was painfully slow sure, but it ensured that every time he ended up heading down a dead end and had to backtrack and rewind his lasso, he could react a little quicker. It also kept him from spinning himself in circles until he lost allsense of directions. Every so often, Scarlet called out to Rain, encouraging her to call louder. Telling how glad he was to have found her for real, how he would not leave her this time, how she was safe this time and, most importantly, how sorry he was that she had been stuck here for so long.

Eventually, after an almost interminable amount of walking, with Rains voice getting fractionally louder, Scarlet turned a corner and could instantly tell he was on the home stretch. Winding a final path, the blue pegasus finally finally found the mare he'd spent so long searching for!

"Finally! I'm here! I've come to take you back home Rain!"
