Or; Oh no, it's actually good...
So there's a long story behind hytale's development; I'm not interested in talking about it in this particular post. Some people are calling it the minecraft killer, I don't agree, but it IS applying some serious selection pressure on microsoft to actually improve the game and not just monetize it.
It's beautiful. The game is hugging gorgeous, the models are gorgeous, the colour pallets are gorgeous... Trees actually collapse when you chop them (rock still floats... but alright.). Domestic animals aren't scared of the player till you start swinging, wild creatures run from you, unless they're predators and they attack if you get too close. There's actual mobs in different biomes: trolls, goblins, mole men... There's friendly villages of different kinds of people and creatures, actual trade with them (currently not implemented, but, still EA.) mobs of different sizes, mob specific weapons... Hell, just seeing a tree model that did not take up the entire 1X1 block; but still counted as a proper cuttable tree was wonderful.
There's a big crafting system, spread out over multiple benches, most resources require some level of processing to be useful. But it's also not complicated. A meat skewer is just meat and stick at the chef bench. You drop leather into the tanning rack and wait. Different grades of leather require you to hunt progressively bigger creatures in different biomes. There's a dedicated building bench to make processing your resources into building mats easy and quick. And there's actual decorative blocks: like roof blocks! I've got shingles, and not the itchy kind! You can upgrade most of the bench to let you make better stuff. It automatically pulls from storage, so you can just craft without running around wondering where you left your copper. You can smelt TWO THINGS AT ONCE! Campfire can cook like that too.
My only real complaint so far is that there doesn't seem to be a way to set down a torch from your off hand. And it's entirely possible I simply haven't found the button yet. I've also not played for very long, only about 2 hours.
So yeah, for you folks who watch either streamers, or gaming on youtube: you're going to be seeing a lot of hytale over the next few weeks, because: oh no, it's actually good.
