I finally found a skeleknight at retail, as they had them at my local retro gaming store, so I picked one up. I might get more of them this weekend, but I am stoked to add it to the collection.

You're not missing anything. That's really what it is. But a sidescroller brawler with MotU characters (and She-Ra)? Yeah, I absolutely want this. I was an 80's kid and 90's teen that hang out in arcades. Side-scrolling brawlers are my jam. So a MotU brawler...especially after what they were able to do with TMNT and Marvel...I can't wait!
More Golden Axe than TMNT, from what I can tell.

Or maybe some of both?

Not entirely surprising, given the mixed performance of the film. That said, I know Amazon hasn’t “written it off”, so I think Amazon is playing it by ear. See how well the film performs on streaming through the end of the year and maybe see what the secondary revenues bring in.

I would NOT be surprised if Amazon went forward with a more modestly budgeted sequel based on the strong streaming performance and if merchandise sales are strong (if structured like Hasbro/Paramount, Amazon would be getting a cut of the MOTU film toy sales…which we’ll see how they shape over the holidays).

People seem to think that streaming is some cheat code to make up for a poor box office, but all streaming is, is a replacement for Blu Ray. Which was a replacement for DVD. Which was a replacement for VHS.
Point is, home media has been a thing since the 80s, so I don't think streaming is necessarily some new thing that changed the game. It's just the newest form of something we've had for ~forty years.
And strong home media releases have saved a few movies and tv shows, but there are plenty of others where... it hasn't. Lots of movies died in theatres, became cult classics on VHS, and that was that. Tron made this an art form, going over a decade between theatrical releases, because the home media releases of the last film were stronger than the box office returns. I expect Tron 4 by 2040.

But like... despite what everyone wants to think, the theatrical box office remains the easiest way for a movie to make a profit. It's very hard to wrangle some financial success if you bomb there.

Which is why the "Amazon MGM doesn't care about the box office" talk never made sense to me. No, I'm pretty sure they'd have preferred a better return.

In better news, you can pre-order the physical version of the upcoming video game on Limited Run's website. There is a limited window of time to pre-order it though.

True, but this is my first time getting a game from them. I might also pre-order a PS5 version to keep sealed, but I might just stick with just the Switch copy.

Looks like Amazon is pulling some pricing bullshittery. The Core 4 pack with exclusive Goat Man, the one available for most of the year? Within the last few weeks, they kicked up the price to $67! And this is NOT a 3rd party seller, it’s “Sold and Shipped from Amazon”.

It’s a baffling increase for something that’s been available for months for 2/3rds the price.
