It's been years since I dug out my TM Megs and I am not sure what condition he'll be in. I *think that he broke at the arm, but I could be wrong. I still remember finding him while grocery shopping at H.E.B. Damn, those were the days.

I do think all of this justifies the decision to do TM1 Megs again. Never mind the debate about whether or not the original can be improved upon (I think there's certainly room to), the fact is that it's a popular form for BW Megatron. And right now your choices are either a Hasbro original that's likely crumbling to dust as we speak, or a Takara original that's going to run you triple figures on the aftermarket.

A new Leader Class TM1 Megatron would be a great option for people who want that version of the character but who don't want to have to go searching for an expansive thirty year old Japanese figure on the aftermarket. Even if it is a sidegrade. A new retail option would be a much better option, even with the inflated price points we have today.

I wouldn't mind a voyager class TM Megatron, actually. Mine cracked a long time ago, so he's permanently on the shelf in beast mode, and I don't remember the last time I even touched that shelf.

I didn't pick up any of the Beast figures during Kingdom, but if they re-did transmetal Megatron, Primal, and Cheetor, I might go for them. I don't need massive new toys, though. Looking at things from both a shelf space and $$ perspective, deluxes and voyagers are fine.

Weirdly, getting Onslaught in made me a bit less concerned that they could do Thunderwing correctly, since it's almost a Mega Pretender arrangement now in how he forms the inner bot that becomes Onslaught that turns into the front half of the rest of the body.

G2 Megatron deserves a Leader class figure. We've never had a proper figure of that design, either official or 3rd party, and I feel almost every other Megatron design has been done at this point.

And I don't think any Jurassic Park movie has T-rexes on roller skates.
No but they should have!

Would have been better than half of them.

I kinda feel like the original was a proper figure?

For its time, at least.

As for TM Megatron, yes, please! I got mine at Value Village for a song, and was so ecstatic to find it there, and complete, no less (more so than TM Primal).

He held up for a bit, then I went to transform him one day, and it was like a spinal Fatality in Mortal Kombat. I was crushed.

Never got a replacement, for reasons mentioned above.

Right, I meant other than the original figure.

It's funny to me to even consider the idea of justifying a new TM1 Megatron. We have new takes on combiners who were redone 10-11 years ago and we've gotten re-Bees and re-Ironhides and re-Megatrons in even less time. I think we can welcome a redo of a toy from so long ago it predates the current price point naming that sets it at Leader class. Especially given all the other factors -- the crumbling plastic of the US version, the availability of the Japanese version, chrome wear, and general plastic aging -- that all of those other, newer examples don't have to reckon with.

I suppose a lot of it comes from how well-done and fondly-remembered the original was, but really that shouldn't be a basis for precluding anything. I'd welcome a reissue with better plastic too (I'd love for them to keep the BW Retro stuff going), but the chance to get a fresh take is fun. It's not really like Armada Megatron where 80% of the fun bits would have to be costed out; this one is even getting done at a good price point for it.

I love this lineup, and it'll be hard to be as selective or slow as I now need to be in getting these. I hope these are all solid.

Oh absolutely. There's a very strong belief that the TM1 designs were so good the first time that they can't be improved upon.
You saw that to a lesser extent with the Cybertron designs that Legacy revisited. People asking what the point was.

Of course you're also right, in that this shouldn't preclude anything. It's just how fandom is.

Eh, I see them making maybe the Armada Predacon redeco which I don't care about either. And I don't think any Jurassic Park movie has T-rexes on roller skates.
No, that only happens in Camp Cretaceous.

(I'm kidding, but a part of me isn't sure I'm kidding.)
