Synapse looks...interesting? If it's a B.A.T.-adjacent character like Overkill, I may be obligated to buy it on principle. Otherwise, I may just admire it from a distance.
Yeah, purple coat Machine Gun Kelly is intriguing as a design. Was about to ask if it's a recent comicverse addition or one of the cool new things originating here (very refreshing), but seems like it's the latter. Wonder if I can get similar enough parts together for a 3.75 one.

Sundown (still sad they didn’t work in some COPS nods…) and Synapse are both completely new characters for the brand.

Danny McBride appeared on the Happy Sad Confused podcast not too long ago and shared a number of new details of the GI Joe project he's working with for Paramount.
While he initially approached Paramount with a Dreadnoks-focused pitch, Paramount wanted a complete franchise reboot. Joined by frequent collaborators Jeff Fradley and John Carcieri, they wrote a script featuring Duke and a small team infiltrating a little town called Springfield...
McBride's script comes after a competition against Max Landis, whose conspiracy thriller against a victorious Cobra, not featuring a number of major characters, was roundly dismissed some months back.

He seems optimistic about the script and has indicated tentative plans to begin filming next year, with some casting discussions already being had.

Maybe keeping it simple is the way to go? My brothers and I would point to the movie Where Eagles Dare (based on the Alistair MacLean novel) as a template for a decent action movie that could work with GI Joe and Cobra. Not saying they should wholly plagiarize it, but it would be a good starting point.

He really feels like a character from a video game. Fortnight? Overwatch? Something modern I havnt ever played.

-ZacWilliam, don't get me wrong I absolutely LOVE that Joe and Masters of the Universe will still do new characters (though I think MotU is maybe doing a better job of matching them to the old aesthetic the new Joes have all felt a tad generic to me.)

He's apparently a reference to another old Hasbro line.

Eh…aside from name and motif, not really?

That was kind of my “complaint” about GIJ Sundown was that they missed an opportunity to make a more obvious homage. Then again, by making him a more direct homage, might have taken away from the fresher ideas the team may have wanted to do with a new character no bound by prior products and canon.

Though, maybe this secures the trademark so Big Bad Workshop has an easier time doing a “proper” Sundown in their COPS N’ Crooks line.

So aside from the name and what it looks like, got it 😛
But the GI Joe Classified team walked RIGHT up to the line of calling it a Cops Sundown figure on the livestream. Which brings me to...

...the fact that Cops is owned by other parties. The differences in design are probably to hedge Hasbro's bets in case BBTS decides to make an issue of it. Always nice to have some plausible deniability.

Like how Hasbro legal wouldn't let them do Fracture/Crasher until they found an IRL F-1 car in that colour scheme in case BanDai made a fuss about it.
