Alright, I will jump in with mine:

1). Missing Link Arcee - The toy that we should would have gotten in '86 to round out the Autobot lineup. A true gem of a figure - and with knees!!

2). Missing Link Arcee (Prototype) - Love the deco on this, and as an unabashed Arcee fanboy, am overjoyed that it exists.

3). HasLab Super Fire Convoy - Sure, it has it's problems, but it is a very fun, solid set.

4). Missing Link Sunstreaker - Lots of Missing Link on the list this year! One of my earliest Transformers, given the POA treatment. Chef's kiss!

5). Walmart Retro G1 Seaspray - Just a great looking version of a cool character, and a fun toy.

6). AotP KSI Widow - I usually don't like much of the live action movie aesthetic, but wow, what a figure. So much fun to transform and is such a cool car.

7). SS86 Megatron - It's the Megatron I've wanted in my modern collection for ages. Looks great, but wish it came with some other accessories.

8). AotP Sideways - Like Missing Link (I'm noticing a theme here!), he's a retro figure given the modern treatment. He's an amazingly cool-looking figure in both modes, and I continue to have a lot of fun with it.

9). AotP Micronus Prime - What a fun lil dude! I know nothing about his character, but I love a good Minicon! So clever and fun, and a surprising addition to my collection.

10). AotP Star Convoy - He's a big (really big!) step up in sizing and articulartion from the original. But I love playsets and world building, and this guy invites that over and over.

Looking over my list, I'd say I prioritized new versions of old figures, with a few, surprising, new-to-me ones as well. Overall though, I focused heavily on the fun-factor this year. I feel like most of the things on my list are not overly complex to transform, are enjoyable, and are aesthetically pleasing to my optic sensors.

It was a good year for Transformers. There are a lot more than just 10 that I really liked. If I have to limit it though, these are the ones that most stand out, in no particular order:

SS86 Megatron - He's actually not taking Earthrise Megatron's spot in my main display, but he's a fantastic version of the character.
SS86 Devastator - I love finally having a really good Devastator that's the right size to interact with all the other mainline combiners.
Blokees Defender Devastator - I've loved all the Blokees kits, and Devastator is especially fun.
Blokees Defender Rodimus Prime (Special Armor Type) - I fell in love from the first reveal and just had to get him.
AotP Megatronus - Just a big, solid bot. Great to finally have a good version of the original Fallen.
AotP Micronus - Micronus himself is a great little Mini-con-type Transformer, and his Apex Armor/unicycle is just fantastic.
AotP Onyx - Nice and imposing, with some really nice variety to his various configurations.
AotP Amalgamous - I wish his head would stay on a little better, but he's a lot of fun to play around with.
Missing Link Arcee - It's wonderful to finally have a real G1 Arcee.
Wild King - All of it, but mainly the ones that let me do this:

Thanks for this thread, tec!

I am rubbish at ranking, but I can definitely think of at least ten noteworthy Transformers for the year.
  • AOTP Excellion
  • Wild King Abyss Rain (really all of Wild King, what an absolute charmer of a toyline)
  • Studio Series KSI Widow
  • Collaborative Bone Shaker
  • AOTP 4-Pack Animated Nemesis Prime
  • AOTP 4-Pack Ultra Magnus
  • AOTP Micronus Prime
  • AOTP Hot Rod (with free Star Optimus Prime)
  • Missing Link Arcee (prototype)
  • Missing Link Cordon

Also cool:
  • AOTP Carnivac with Survivor/Fisitron
  • AOTP Silverbolt (after much waffling I bit the bullet and tried out the frame system with all the bippin and the boppin)
  • AOTP Bumper (basically the SS86 Bee mold)
  • AOTP Sky-Byte

Would've liked to get/include these. Maybe next year...
  • Armada Nemesis Prime
  • AOTP Razorclaw
  • SS86 Megatron

My main thing was Omega Prime, as I had preordered him before things went nuts, then wound up enjoying it more than expected given its issues. It helps that it also functionally comes with a spare torso core and Omega Prime armor due to the extra accessory-less Prime and Magnus Hasbro sent. I also got AOTP Vortex, wasn't (and still am not) sure I will be able to complete Bruticus, but design-wise he made me like the way the system is done, as it's probably the least compromised combiner limb I've encountered. I really like CW Defensor, but I will enjoy Bruticus having an entirely different design for setups.

Ok let's rap...

BotCon 2014 Knight Commander Ginrai

IMG0581.png

Always loved the Fire Guts Ginrai colour scheme and I love this mould, but being a BotCon exclusive I never got a chance to grab one, as I was just starting at my first teaching position and not really flush with cash. It sat as a back burner "want" for years until I finally decided to grab one after getting the original Fire Guts last year. It's pretty great to finally have it.

Machine Wars Sandstorm
Machine Wars Optimus Prime

IMG0582.png

I always wanted to complete MW and this was the year I finally finished the line. These two are the highlights of the ones I got this year. This is the first time I've experienced the Rotorstorm mould. I've already experienced Thunderclash but having Optimus means I can experience it without GPS concerns. Also Sandstorm's super realistic military deco and Optimus' random colour scheme make them pretty good representatives of MW's madness.

Animorphs Visser 3

IMG0583.png

I was a huge fan of the Animorphs books and tv show but I never got the toys at the time because they looked... just horrifying. Still, I've heard for years that the Andalite figures actually work really well. So I grabbed Visser 3 on a whim and he's pretty great! In a way toys just aren't anymore.

AotP Star Optimus

IMG0584.png

I have a "No Titans" rule that I broke for this guy. And I don't regret it. He's big, chunky, and captures the vibe of the original perfectly.

AotP Megatronus

IMG0585.png

Leaders during WfC often were "Voyagers with add-ons." Leaders during Legacy could be hit or miss. But Megatronus, the first original Leader mould from AotP, is a statement. That Leader class is back.

AotP Micronus

IMG0586.png

I love this guy. It's got such a unique gimmick and play pattern. I wasn't expecting what they did with him but he owns it.

AotP Onyx

IMG0587.png

Onyx isn't the slam dunk as a Leader that Megatronus is, but that's more to do with some of the inherent issues with Beastformers. As a figure in his own right, he's imposing, epic, and versatile. And while I'm a certified hater of IDW's "Onyx is Shockwave" twist, I do like that they sculpted the back of Shockwave's head into the back of Onyx's head. That's a fun touch.

AotP Skybyte

IMG0588.png

I remember being disappointed by T30 Skybyte. This is just better in every conceivable way.

AotP Big Convoy

IMG0589.png

I have the original Big Convoy. And it's good.... but it's a product of its time. Meaning it's fiddly and overly reliant on ball joints. The only thing I wanted from a new one was to do the original design in a more solid form, and this does that in spades. He's not a brick by any means, and can move nicely despite his bulk. But he's just rock solid in both modes and it's so fun to have this design in a form that's not compromised by the limits of late 90s/early 2000s engineering.

Now for the dedicated 2025 stand-ins...

Studio Series Transformers One Sentinel Prime

IMG0593.png

I'm a lover of all things Sentinel Prime, and he was such a delightfully evil villain in TFO. While his Prime Changer figure was a surprising standout for a budget line, his SS version is just pure perfection. He's everything you could want (minus a double bladed sword).

AotP Solus Prime

IMG0592.png

Solus is a pretty straightforward Deluxe. And unlike Micronus, doesn't do anything terribly new. Still, she takes a rather bland CoP character design and gives it a ton of personality, from her elf shoes to her blacksmith apron to her WoW Draeni Paladin hammer. I love that they sculpted her hair into the back of the head as well.

AotP Alpha Trion

IMG0591.png

They did a pretty solid Generations Alpha Trion in Legacy in that two pack with Sunbow Orion Pax, so it was a huge question as to what they could do that wouldn't make this version a retread. Turns out that basing it off of his younger A3 days was the right move. He also comes with a CoP and a pen! The history teacher in me loves this.

TSpark Lio Convoy

IMG0590.png

This thing was a journey to get with how many times it was delayed and rumoured to be cancelled, but it finally showed up. The original mould was great, only let down by questionable paint and a questioned lion head. The TSpark version just fixes all of it. He's gorgeously decked out in paint and his new anime accurate lion head is just perfect. He and AotP Big Convoy make a great pair.

Love those pics, Lord GigaIce.

The hardest thing about these posts is remembering when I picked up specific figures.

At the high end -
  • Alchemist Prime is cool.
  • Excellion turned out to be great. Didn't have Hot Shot's foot issues.
  • Burn-Out is great, whereas Skids, Crankcase, and Medix were nice but didn't fit together with the same level of precision.

In the middle -
  • Solus Prime, while a great concept, was kinda 'meh,' at least my copy.
  • Metalhawk was 'meh,' too.

At the other end of the list . . .
  • Earthrise Ratchet just pissed me off. Looks great in robot mode, but his van has so many issues.
  • I bought Tracks, too, thinking I'd be able to tighten up his legs. Nope. He's in pieces in a bin. Should've trusted the reviews, shouldn't have gotten overconfident about what I can actually fix.

I bought others, off and on, but I don't remember exactly when . . .
