Yeah I finished Time Stranger just before starting Legend Z-A yesterday. That prelude is basically just animating the backstory of one of the MC's that gets told to you fairly early on. I'm thinking it probably could have been the original intro to the game, but it has a bit of a dark start to the game right away that way.

Now I kinda want them to go back and do Appmon, just so all the Digimon Animes have dubs
I'd watch it. It is the third-best Digimon anime, after all.

I feel really dumb that I was like “who Digivolves into BlitzGreymon and CresGarurumon?” when the Time Stranger DLC came out.

Also Beatbreak takes the cake on making us wait on the lead character’s Digimon digivolving. But I do like that Beatbreak has been setting up the world and story a lot better than most series have. It feels a bit less pushing a new Digimon in our face every episode and has had let some plots play out over multiple episodes. And it’s been enjoyable enough that it doesn’t feel like we’ve had 12 episodes already in.

Yeah, this is definitely the most (for lack of a better word) "mature" storytelling in terms of character and world-building that we've had in a Digimon anime since Tamers (though, Appmon also came pretty close). And even compared to that, Beatbreak feels like the least toyetic a Digimon anime has ever been. It really feels like this series wants to tell a story first and foremost without also trying to be a commercial that advertises merchandise to children.

This also seems to be reflected in the fact that the main characters are all high-school-aged-and-up for the first time, unlike how most other Digimon TV anime series have the lead characters be in elementary school (the main exceptions being Savers and Ghost Game, wherein they were in middle school instead, but still not high school).

Wow we really let the Beatbreak discussion just pop up in in Anime.

So after potentially the best season we've gotten in a long time we go back to the Best of the first four series until we start the next series.

"Digimon: The Best Adventure We Chose" is replaying a selection of the best episodes from the original Adventure to Frontier. But the fun is to be had with the new OP for it. Not the best animation, but it has fun with the potential of mixing casts and ideas between the series. Pay the most attention to how they do the Digivolution sequence.

I think this series was rather weak and there was a lot of missed chances for characters to evolve to next stages, the human villain, his motivations were generally weak and boring in the end and the twist of Digimon pretending to be humans, while unexpected, but frankly they had zero personalty as they came in right at the end of the series, so generally, this series, much like Ghost Game, wastes far to much time at the start and then has to rush to its conclusion, in my mind, the last truly great series was Xros Wars parts 1 & 2 as it sets up the main villains pretty early on and their motivations, while Beatbreak only starts setting up in the last couple of eps!

I'll disagree on some of that. While their plan only gets fleshed out in the end, especially with the surprise reveal of the true main antagonists, the world union was always an underlying threat. We knew the Five Stars and the Chairman were up to something pretty much from the beginning, and arcs like the Tactics and Gift arcs were building up to it. I'll admit the pay off felt a bit weak, but unlike Ghost Game or even Xross Wars was my investment in the characters overall and for me that delivered. I wasn't in the show just to see the next Digivolution, or the next big conflict. I wanted to see the resolution for Tomoro and his brother. To see Reina and Pristimon grow further. Kyo's Backstory. If anything the only main cast member I feel that got completely shafted storywise was Makoto as his arc felt dealt with near the mid point of the series and never really got more than that later. But even some of the Tactics kids got a decent story arc. The ending may not felt the best, but it felt earned.

Now I won't argue against Xros Wars as I do remember liking it, but it really hasn't stuck in my head over the years. But I don't see much difference between the end plots of Xros Wars other than admitting the enemy faction overall was more involved. In the end it still comes down to both having two overpowered Mega + Digimon fighting over the stakes of the world. Not even touching the fanservice the end of Hunters pulled out.

But this was much better than Ghost Games ending plot that really did get pulled out of their butt at the last minute. The only overarching thing they had going for them was the GalusGammamon darkness thing and where Hiros dad was. And I don't think they ever gave a resolution to his Dad. Scratch that I forgot they even brought his dad back up. But then we get this whole coming apocalypse that has nothing to do with the rest of the series vibe of Urban Legends caused by Digimon. And hey it's not coming anytime soon. so you got the whole rest of no episodes to prepare for it.....

I won't deny that they flubbed Chaiman Wongs overall part in it. But in the end he never felt like the end boss. We always knew Gokuumon and Genjo where the ones always in the background. Seeing that flip in the end wasn't a surprise but Genjos true ID was. If anything his other two compatiots or rather just Senka as she had no real build up. Kanchi at least got a bit in the Gift arc. But yes they all felt a bit too much background than major players.

As far as Digivolutions go though I'm actually glad they held back for most of the series. If anything it was cool early on seeing how they would win over other higher levels without help from Kyo and Murasamemon ocaasionally. But I won't deny these are some of my least favorite designs overall. I'd rather keep them all in the same forms they start with in episode one then seeing any of the later evos of the main cast. Didin't care for any of Gekkomons. Hated Bearcatmon and wasn't wowed by Artiomon's design. And while I feel Chiropmon had a most consistent design, I think the Champion and the Ultimate levels should have been swapped.

But theres the kicker. I didn't care about the look, I cared about the characters themselves. Gekkomon was consistently fun. Pristimon was the adorable but fiesty one, and well Chiropmon was adoarble too but really useful just in his rookie form. Cougarmon/Murasamemon was good boy/badass. And if anything the vibe of a found family stayed consistent throughout the series. To me if I'm sticking through the series beyond unfavorable designs and being invested through the entire series for the characters and the plot had a minor bump with the villains in the end I don't feel that was weak at all.
