Toys Crank it Up! First Images of Studio Series 86 Soundwave (and Friends)

Nune over at TFW2005 has posted the first pictures of Studio Series 86 Soundwave along with Buzzsaw, Laserbeak, and Ravage mini-cassettes. All are brand-new molds as opposed to remolds/repaints of the existing figures. See the gallery below for images of all four figures in both modes.

In all seriousness, Soundwave looks nice and I am severely tempted to add it to my collection just to get that Buzzsaw.

Similar ideas, but different execution, it looks like. Ravage here has additional leg articulation, which is nice.

Ravage looks great, except for how high those missiles are sitting. I thought they were something else at first glance!

Birds look good, except for how straight the wings are. I wonder if they can be adjusted. Pity about the big gaps in tape mode, though.

It's okay, and I consider the tapes a downgrade for the most part. A big problem for Hasbro is that the Siege mold came pretty close to perfection, and then a little retooling got even closer. But they can only release so many variations on that mold before even die-hards stop buying it, so they had to try again from scratch...and I don't think this is better for all that it's bigger. Heck, if you're going to do another Leader Soundwave, it needs to turn into Dancitron as a third mode or why bother? The design suits the Voyager class quite well if you're just doing robot/microcassette recorder.

It's fine, I'll get it because Soundwave is my G1 fav Decepticon, and that I can shuffle my Siege SW to the Episode 1 lot so it's not a waste. But SS86 is not too exciting. Its "all too faithful to the Sunbow toon look" is not gonna pair well with SS86 Megs due to the lack of surface details. The cassettes are too kawaii looking for me, but at least Ravage is an improvement over Siege, and the condors have superior wing articulations even though the birds look worse in both modes.

Eh. Nothing beats my love for Hasbro's MP Soundwave bundle anyway so, like I said, it's fine as a needed replacement on my CHUG G1 shelves.

For me, he just looks ‘off’ to me. The gun and shoulder cannon look both chunky and squished at the same time. The tape door looks…um, too big. There’s a lot to like, but .

The birds looks decent, but Ravage to me does not look great. However, perhaps more pictures, when they come, will help.
