Iconic New Zealand actor, Sam Neill, has passed away. Details are still forthcoming as to the cause of death, but we reportedly passed in the presence of family. He garnered international fame portraying Dr. Alan Grant in the Jurassic Park/World film franchise. He was 78.

Sad to see him gone. He was a great actor and his portrayal of Dr Grant made every Jurassic Park/World movie the better for it.

Before he was Alan Grant, he was Captain Borodin in Hunt for Red October. I hope he got to see Montana.
Thanks for all the memorable roles, Mr Neill, you will be missed!

Also, Randolph Mantooth, John Gage in Emergency!, passed on the 9th.

It was a bad weekend for actors in things I like.

John C. Dvorak, LONG time technology writer, journalist, pundit and TV host; passed last week aged 80 following complications from a double bypass. He was on the start up team at CNET Networks and his show, Silicon Spin, was among the first shows on ZDTV (Later TechTV).

In more mainstream news, Hollywood writer, producer and director, Chuck Russell passed away last week at age 74. While he gained cult status as a horror director (Writing and/or directing Nightmare on Elm Street 3 and the Blob remake), he also garnered mainstream success with a string of hits in the late 90s. In addition to the Arnold Schwarzenegger led Eraser and directing Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s first solo outing in Scorpion King; he directed the comic book adaption The Mask. The Mask proved to be a major hit, making over $350 million worldwide and elevated its leads, Jim Carrey and Cameron Diaz, into stars.

Man, that sucks. I listened to him a lot on the TWIT podcast from 2004-2010 when I was listening every week. He was awesome on there. RIP sir.

Man, the mask was a huge movie for us back in the day.

Not a major celebrity, but for us 90s kids who grew up on Canadian voice work on cartoons, he’ll be remembered:
Voice Actor Michael Donovan passed a few months back, aged 72.

His VA career stretches over 30 years. Some of his more notable work included Wes Weasely on ABC’s Sonic the Hedgehog, Conan in Conan the Adventurer, Phong and numerous others in Reboot, King Randor and Roboto in the 2002 He-Man series, and numerous voices in both the Lego Ninjago and Lego Star Wars television projects. For anime fans, he was prolific in the early 2000s anime boom, dubbing Master Roshi in an earlier Dragonball dub, plus rolls in Ranma 1/2, Gundam, and even our own Transformers. In Cybertron, he voiced Dirt Boss, Crosswise and Primus

We have to bid good journey to Jon Cypher, the first live action Man At Arms (who also had a pretty robust television and theatre career)
