Blokees

So I found a store in Topeka that sells Blokees, including the latest TF: One wave I haven't gotten. I went ahead and picked up a few as I didn't want to buy the case.
They've made some major changes to their body, giving more flexability and articulation. While this has increased the complexity a slight bit, it's well worth the trade off, in my eyes. These are really nice toys. And at 10 bucks a pop, they're something you can still enjoy while staying in a budget.

I got the Hidden Style TF: One Megatron!

pics do not do this toy justice. He has this beautiful silver/purple sheen and chromed bits. He is frikken gorgeous.

I like that they're doing vehicle modes now. I never picked up any of the bot modes (don't care for the chibi-fied aesthetic) but I did get a var mode Wheeljack, and he's glorious. Really want the upcoming Scamper.

Minor deal report:
Walmart is offering select “Classic” Figures (the larger 5-ish inch figures) for a paltry $5. I came across:
Megatron TF2007
Optimus Prime 2007
Optimus Primal Beast Mode
Optimus Primal Robot mode
Arcee
Mirage
Scourge

Part of the “Early Access” Deals on Walmart via Walmart+, presumably will be offered when opened to the public.

Minor update: According to images at TFW, Walmart stores will have these on feature displays akin to the BOGO Deluxe packs as part of a Black Friday feature. So if you can’t get them online, you might have luck in store… if you dare.

Did a quick check this morning, these are apparently the “Champion” Class? Boxes as tall as a Voyager, half as wide. So I think they’re closer to 7” tall? Not sure I’ll keep all the ones I ordered just for space issues.

But the in store display had a shelf of TF07 Optimus Prime, one for TF07 Megatron, and the remaining two shelves were seemingly evenly split between Mirage, Optimus Primal, and Scourge. Primal Beast Mode and Arcee were not present, and might be de facto online exclusives. Or stores might be getting different mixes or different sized displays.

I didn't try buying any to confirm it's really $5 and not their usual $10 for Classic Class, because none of the designs really grabbed me (and I already had my hands full with the Galaxy class wave 6 POP display I'd found a minute earlier).

Alright... so I went and splurged on "galaxy version series 1" blind box... and now I got a problem.

It was awesome. I love it. I can easily see myself getting more. Which is the problem. I can get them without control or input at 10 bucks a pop from a place called "imaginaire" near me... or I can get them off the shelf at TRU for 15 bucks a pop. Is having the control over which one I buy (including whatever methodology exists to figure out which character is in the box.) worth five bucks more?

I'm not aware of any methodology to figure out which one's in the box. If you order a specific one off eBay, what you're buying is a box that's been opened up to check the character card or instructions inside to see what it is. In early waves, where the character card was packed inside the parts bag, that bag will also be opened.

Really, the options are:
  • If you decide you want to get everyone in a wave, just buy a case. You get everyone guaranteed, and it can be cheaper per figure than either of the options you're comparing. Even in the US with tariff impacts, BBTS comes out to $10 per figure with shipping. If you don't mind the wait, sites like showzstore.com can be significantly cheaper. The only gamble this way is whether or not you get the chase figure.
  • If you only want a few particular figures and don't mind the opened box, you can order them off eBay. It's more expensive per figure, but you get exactly what you want.
  • Otherwise, find the best deal you can and roll the dice.

Hunh. Usually blind boxes have SOMEthing on them to indicate... I know I did that for the megablox halo stuff back when...

Well... if it's actually completely random (other than weight, which is what my google searching suggests.)... then I get them from imaginaire and save the money.

I buy by the wave. That way you’re guaranteed no doubles. If you want to chase the chase figures that’s up to you, but they get pricey on the secondary market.

EDIT: I will say that Showzstore is not much cheaper than retail for Canada.

I don't chase particular figures, but I also don't want doubles.

Which probably means this isn't the collection for me... but damned if they aren't awesome. So I'll probably do it anyway, but try to limit how many I get from any given series.

Depends on the retail: so far as I can tell: only two places (local to me anyway.) are even carrying them: imaginaire (a quebec based toy/hobby/board games store.) and TRU. And tru is overcharging as usual.
