Welp, end of an era... kinda.

Since I hopped on the pony train, I've had a small collection of plushes on a shelf in the corner of my room. But the limitations of those shelves (cause I replaced the mish-mash of stuff with a single style and build a couple years ago.), mostly weight, meant I was suddenly forced to move some stuff around.

I've put my plushes away. Tupperware bin and into storage. I've no intention of getting rid of them... but I also know myself and that getting binned in the first step towards getting put out. I wanted to keep my video game stuff too... but it's all gone now. Same with the lego. The only thing that's bucked the trend unilaterally is the transformers.

It's kind of amazing how little changes can make you introspective.

It completely skipped my mind to mention... wrote a story. It's not an MLP story, but there are references. Spoiler tags to trim down length and scrolling for those who don't want to see it.

“It’s so weird. It’s
like, before I lost my memories, I mean, I was the same
person. I liked the same music, liked the same foods,
had the same sense of humor. I mean, I was still me I
suppose. But it’s still like two completely different
lives.”
Samantha chuckled a bit. “I think anyone who’s
part of the alpha generation of plainerills can relate to
that,” she mused.
“I keep seeing this greenish unicorn with a
jeweled eye and five foamy glasses on its flank.”
Samantha snorted and laughed, tilting her head
amused. “That would be Fizzy. I have one of the
originals from 1986, I believe. Somewhere around
there. Of course, it’s in my ‘do not touch’ menagerie.”
Lucia raised an eyebrow. “Talk about your
long-lasting franchises!”
“Plainerills are still human, many of them given
to nostalgia. There’s a lot of things still around
probably only because Plainerills grew up with them:
Transformers, My Little Pony, Star Wars…English, even
if it has undergone some changes. I can get you another
one if you want. Sausage links or patties?”
“Links please. And, yeah, if it’s okay. My old
one didn’t make the trip to the orphanage.”
Samantha nodded. “We can go to the toy store
sometime today if you want. You seem to be obsessed
with the violin, but you can’t live by violin alone.”

-----

Samantha walked down the aisles of the toy
store with her companions. Sheila had a rough time
convincing the employees to let her in the building.
Reassuring them that she was in fact sapient finally
convinced them to let her in, though they still gave her
the occasional uneasy glance.
Samantha smiled as they came to the My Little
Pony isle. Though the molds for the actual toys of
previous centuries had been long lost, many of the same
characters had been remade. It heartened her that the
characters she loved as a kid were still being made all
these years later, however much the toys themselves
may have changed. Not only that, but if Lucia and Runa
were anything to judge by, the kids still loved them.
Lucia found her Fizzy and smiled broadly. “It
looks exactly the same!”
Samantha smiled as Lucia fawned over the toy.
Runa checked her own wallet and smiled as she saw she
had saved enough for the one she was looking at and
picked up a pink Pegasus with two blue lightning bolts
on the flank. “Oh! Firefly,” Samantha noted with a grin.
“Nice!”
“And which one were you going to pick up?” a
familiar voice asked from down the aisle. Samantha
turned to see Christine walking down the aisle.
“What are you doing here? I thought I left you
in charge.”
“You did. I had a little talk with Marco.”
“I read your report. I approve. I still think, no, I
know it’s going to come back to haunt me later. But
given the situation, it was the right move.”
“I thought you might approve. At the very least,
you’ll have some bit of moral high ground when it does
come to bite you in the…”
Samantha rushed to cover Christine’s mouth.
“Maybe we should be getting you a jar. And it’s not so
much about having the moral high ground. I just want to make sure we gave him every chance to do the right
thing.”
“Yeah, I know,” Christine said, swiping
Samantha’s hand away from her mouth, “claim the
moral high ground. So, which one are you going to pick
up?”
Samantha sighed. “Anyway, I read the report.
So, what’s up?”
“I’m on my break. I thought I’d pick up the new
Street Fighter.”
Runa perked up. “No kidding! That’s out?”
“What number are they on now?” Lucia asked,
dragging her eyes from Fizzy for the first time since
finding her.
“Ugh! Roman numerals,” Christine moaned.
“After you get past the X’s, V’s and I’s, even I have
trouble with the crazy things!”
“You’re better with it than I am, then,” Lucia
noted.
Samantha grinned. “Well, I know what we’ll be
doing once we get home.”
“Uh huh,” Christine grinned. “So, which one
were you going to pick up?”
Samantha sighed, looking down the aisle and
picking up a Generation 3 Minty. “Happy?”
Christine laughed as she looked down the aisle
herself, picking out a Fizzlepop Berrytwist.
“Supremely!”
“Does this mean we don’t have to grow out of
our toys when we grow older,” Lucia asked hopefully.
“I think it would be really sad if you did,”
Samantha said, ruffling her hair and leading everyone to
the video game section.

----

Lucia looked curiously at Sofia but followed as
she stood and led her into another room. “This used to
be my room, didn’t it?” Lucia asked, trying to
concentrate on the half-remembered memory.”
“I never changed anything. Everything that’s in
this room belongs to you. Feel free to take whatever.”
Lucia scrunched up her nose at the thought.
She wanted nothing from them. She looked at the violin
she used to play. The one she had now was much
higher quality than that beginner's toy. All of the sheet
music had been replaced. All of the music albums were
either replaced or were groups she had outgrown.
There truly was nothing she wanted from them…until
she saw it.
The green unicorn with five frothy mugs on its
flank sat on the nightstand next to the bed. “Fizzy,” she
barely breathed.
“That always was your favorite toy aside from
the violin,” Sofia said.
Lucia could feel an electric excitement ripple
through her body as she reached out to touch the piece
of plastic. A stray tear trickled down her cheek as she
held it in her hands. It really did look exactly like the
one Samantha had bought her, except for the tail that
was cut into a bob and the hair that was styled in
cornrow braids.
“Will you ever be able to forgive us?”
Lucia let out a slightly self-deprecating laugh.
“It should be easy, shouldn’t it? I mean, you’ve seen the
PSA my friends and I made. I was able to forgive Kate
for what she did to Missy. This should be easy, right?”

It looks like Equestria Daily...may soon not be so "daily", anymore.

I, personally, will be retiring from EQD, at least for this year. I’ve mentioned it a few times, and I’ll do a huge write-up about it later, but after so long I just need a break! I still love poni, but doing this every day for 5,478.75 days is a LOT. I’ll still be spamming everyone with my favorite equines on Twitter, though, as that takes all of three minutes since I compulsively archive stuff I like and just parrot it over there. As for this site, I’ll either be looking for someone to take my place or leaving it up as a glorious beacon of this wonderful world of colorful horses, with the possible occasional post.

I can't really blame them. Because Pony news has been pretty dead for a while now. Outside of maybe cards and Chinese merchandise. And I feel like Equestria Daily's one of the few things keeping the lights on in this franchise. But, this does kind of feel like the beginning of a end, if things don't turn around soon. Without Equestria Daily, I'm not sure how I'm going to keep up with any breaking Pony news.

Hopefully, they find someone reliable to take it over. But, I fear if there was anyone, they would have stepped up by now. Running a website isn't easy. And it takes a pretty dedicated person to do it. And I think those kind of people are just pretty rare.

We'll see what happens. Hopefully, Hasbro announces...SOMETHING sooner rather than later. But, we'll see.

Go to bed, Seth.

I'm not worried yet. Someone will take over. There's always someone crazy enough, and Seth won't be completely gone. The schedule is just going to be lighter, which is fair right now. Things will pick up again. We know there are comics coming. We're in a lull with no end date in sight, but we know things are in progress.

It's not really a goodbye. He'll be around. It sounds like the news hound equivalent of the forever GM wanting to be a player for once. That's fair.

MLP licensing is huge. Hasbro talks about it every quarter.

I don't know what this is, but it's interesting to see a 2D Twilight that isn't the same toon model we saw through so many seasons. The question remains, was it mocked up for this teaser or is it a hint of something?

Not sure if you guys want to start a thread or not, but Super7 has announced on social media that they now have a license for My Little Pony products. Nothing revealed, but it IS Toy Fair this coming weekend. Highly probable to be "80s-oriented" given their business model and the style of logo, but nothing confirmed.

It's probably G4, but we can dream.

But whatever they're making, can we just appreciate that it isn't a Chinese exclusive? We are so back.

Could this be Generation 6?!

....The answer is probably not. No. But, we get so little to talk about, recently, I might as well post it, anyway.
b90d83df-02a8-480a-9d81-e9691a66caa4._CR0,0,3000,600_SX1920_.jpg

Hasbro updated a Amazon UK page with this artwork. And that's why some people think it could be the art style for G6.

But, if you read the comments on the article, it seems like Andy Price has already de-comfirmed this as being what G6 is. He might be wrong, but he's closer to the action than any of us are.

I don't hate it. But, it does look more like artwork for a line of G1-ified G4 toys, rather than something you'd see in a modern-day cartoon. I hate to say it, but this art style is a little too detailed for modern cartoons. I'm mostly talking about Fluttershy, here.

I wouldn't mind seeing a special in this art-style. I'm not sure if I'd want it to be the basis for a whole cartoon series, though. But, I'd have to see it in motion.

I think it's growing on me. But, something about it makes me think, if Hasbro actually did go with this art style, that the show would be targeted to a younger audience. I'm not sure why I think that. There's just something about this art-style that gives me "Nick Junior"-vibes. I'm really not sure why. Maybe because, other than obviously reminding me of MLP G1, it kind of gives me "Little Bear" or "Franklin" vibes?

So, yeah. Probably not actually what G6 will be. But, worth sharing. It's fun to see these characters in different art-styles, at least.

I'm not going to judge this without seeing it in motion, and without seeing some varied expressions. Stock images have never been indicative of what any MLP show is like. If this even has anything to do with anything. I take Andy Price at his word here. As for what it is, who knows. Let's face it, nobody has ever known what Hasbro UK is doing.

Whatever it is, I just appreciate that G4's poor limb anatomy is seemingly being left behind. G5 was gone too soon, but it may have pushed things in the right direction.

Hey! We actually got a few pieces of NEWS! Finally, something to TALK ABOUT with pony, again! It's been too long.

Could our long, long....LONG Pony drought finally be coming to a end?!
1032280__safe_screencap_starlight+glimmer_pony_g4_my+little+pony-colon-+friendship+is+magic_the+cutie+re-dash-mark_alternate+timeline_ashlands+timeline_barren_d.png

Well...we've probably got a while to wait, yet. But, we might be about halfway there.

First off, we got a slideshow of the early plans for...um..."Phase Two" of G5! (MAN, Netflix season-numbering really messes with what you call seasons of shows nowadays.) What would have been after the Secrets of Starlight special, if the CGI series had continued. Before Tell Your Tale reworked their ideas into their cut-short version of things.

There's some fun details in here. Some of this we already knew from other leaks, but some I'm pretty sure is brand new. To summarize:
It was going to be called "Heart Quest"! Which, yeah, that's a fine enough subtitle for a new season of the show. A little generic, but it gets the idea across,

Izzy was going to get a "quirky" new pegasus cousin with a prosthetic wing. Introducing....Fizzy! I do appreciate the callback. Too bad we don't get to see a design, I guess they didn't get that far with the idea. It's...a little odd that her "cousin" is a pegasus, given that the three tribes where split up for so long. I don't know how that would have been explained. And there's a chance that the writers just forgot that little detail.

Pipp was going to start mentoring Seashell. *Googles* Who's the purple unicorn filly of the Pippsqueak trio. OBVIOUSLY, I remember that, who could possibly forget Seashell? She was going to star as part of the Seapony special of the season. More on that a little later.

Also, the Pippsqueaks were going to "adopt"/"kidnap" Twitch the bunny as their new pet, while he's trying to scout for Allura. Cute. I guess they really wanted to flesh out the Pippsqueaks this season. Too bad they never did.

There's actually a few mentions of Sunny upgrading her Smoothie cart for a Smoothie Shop on the Boardtrot, and hiring Comet. That seemed to be a bigger focus for her character in this planned season.

Queen Haven and Alphabittle were going to get married in a big royal wedding special. Oh...that would have been sweet to see!

We WERE supposed to get more and longer songs. Oh, the music that could have been! Well...the music was never the strongest aspect of G5, so maybe they showed us a bit of mercy, there.

The Crystal Ponies of the Secrets of Starlight special originally had a...different sort of look about them. I kind of like this look better. Even if it is probably just fanart they grabbed quick to make this powerpoint.

We got new named Dragons! That's fun, even though they share all the same body type and basic designs. But, so do ponies, to a certain extent, so fair enough. Learning more about Dragon culture would have been fun.

Misty was going to start making a movie throughout the season, as a way to boost her confidence. That would have been a fun little side story to follow. And, you know what, it's kind of clever tying her love of ponycorn to a love of movies. I kind of wonder what KIND of movie they had in mind? Documentary? Love story? Horror? Horror might make some sense, because...

The idea behind this season was that the Manes were going to go around meeting a BUNCH of different races. And each one of them would get a transformation based on those new races. Sunny would be a Alicorn, Izzy would be a Auroricorn, Pipp would be a Seapony, Hitch would become a Dragon, Misty would become a Nocturna/Bat-Pony, and Zipp would become a Breezie. So, it seems like they're "explaining" that Sunny's Almost-acorn hologram look is because she's CHANNELING the power of the actual Alicorn race. Given the comics, I feel like Izzy and Pipp's transformations should be flipped, with Izzy becoming a Seapony, and Pipp becoming a Auroricorn. But, Hitch becoming a literal Dragon-Dad is PERFECT. And Zipp as a Breezie would have lead to some really fun comedy. Plus, it sounds like her new, tiny form would help her investigate and spy on Allura.

But, man...Misty as a Nocturna?! We basically got robbed of "Goth Misty"! The fandom will never forgive Hasbro!

Orignally, there was a lot more focus on collecting each of 6 magical charms in each of these new species' lands. The Dragon's Tooth for the Dragons, the Breezie Key for the Breezies, the Nova Charm for the Auroricorns, the Sea Pony Shell for the Seaponies, the Crescent Moon for the Nocturnas, and the Rainbow of Light for the Alicorns. I'm a sucker for a trinket collection story, so I would have liked to see all this play out.

Allura was originally going to team up with Opaline for the finale. And it sounds like she was a lot more traditionally evil originally. And they even mention that her missing brother is "even more evil than she is". So, yeah, not as much of a sympathetic kitty in the original plan for this season.

Sunny was going to meet her Mom, again, when they reached Skyros the land of Alicorns. So, Sunny's mom was always ALIVE! That would have been great to actually SEE! *SIGH* Although, now I'm wondering if her Dad's there, too, or not? What happened to Argyle?

And it actually sounds like we were going to go to Skyros a few times throughout the season, actually. Kinda ironic how we NEVER even SAW the place in what we got. But....it is what it is. *SIGH*

And it sounds like the G5 crew were going to meet up with "other generations" of ponies for the grand finale. So, the G4 Mane 6 and maybe even some G1 and G3 ponies could have gotten a cameo for the finale? That would have been cool! Funny how they changed things in Tell Your Tale, to have Twilight show up earlier than everyone else, according to that leaked animatic we got a while ago. Kind of makes it sound like Skyros could have been the Valhalla or J'nwan for all the older pony Generations.

And, finally...it actually sounds like they were ALWAYS planning on ending G5 with "Phase Two". They mention a few times that getting to Skyros and meeting and defending the Alicorns was always going to be the "grand finale" of G5. Huh. So, they already wanted to move on, whenever they made this slideshow. I guess I can't really blame them for cutting things sort, if they were always going to end things. But, MAN, I wish we had gotten the full treatment for this season.

Even though, all this was supposed to happen in 2024 and 2025. So...SOMETHING happened behind the scenes that REALLY slowed down production of episodes.

And there's actually a SECOND piece of pony news that I think is worth talking about! When it rains, it pours!

There was a Ponyverse Festival in China, because of course there was. China gets all the good Pony stuff, lately.

Looks pretty fun. I DO like that Magic Circle they made with all the G4 cutie marks on the edges. That thing is cool.

But, they also showed off a few images of various ponies in a new chibi art style. From multiple different generations all together. And it's called "Ponyverse". Which just makes me wonder....is THIS the next thing Hasbro has planned? Are we seeing the early images of G5.5?!

4080D455F9C53E1C8B356D3CC0B91B1E.png

We have most of the G4 cast (minus Applejack and Rarity *grumble-grumble*), along with G5 Sunny and Izzy, and G1 Minty. And...I think G3 Rainbow Dash along WITH G4 Rainbow Dash...huh? (Double Rainbow?!) (Unless it's supposed to be G1 Starshine or Sunlight, or G3 Sunny Daze or Whistle Wishes, or someone else...) These choices seem random enough to be hinting at something.

I don't know. This is all just VERY similar to the leaked "summer camp" idea we saw a few months back. Just WAY more chibi. Which I'm not against. And I could see Hasbro trying to make "Pony Life 2.0" a thing. Leaning more into "cute", rather than..."Teen Titans Go" is probably a good idea, if this is indeed the plan.

So, maybe this is nothing. Or maybe this is our next "generation". It's hard to say. They didn't announce or claim anything. It might just be a fun new art-style they decided to feature heavily at this little event. But...it's something worth keeping a eye on, I think.

G5 really should have done things instead of saving them for later. What a shame.

I don't want that chibi stuff to be the art style for the next thing, but I also have no expectation that it will be. The logo says "PONYVERSE FESTIVAL". So it could just be something specifically for the festival. If that's all it's for, it does the job. It is cute.

I'm surprised there was no big announcement but I'm thinking maybe I shouldn't be. Considering the big poster with a smattering of corporate logos at the bottom, I'm thinking Hasbro had very little to do with this and they are not the reason China's getting this "festival" and we're not. I'm thinking this was more of a licensing expo than anything else, except thrown together primarily by the licensees rather than by Hasbro.

Honestly, I'm halfway expecting some sort of announcement at San Diego Comic Con next week. If only because if we don't get a announcement then...we might not get any announcements this year. We could just randomly get a press release or a youtube trailer or something. But, I would think Hasbro would want to make more of a splash than that. But, who knows?

At the very least, I'm hoping Boom shows off SOMETHING for the new comic at SDCC. There's been nothing in the solicitations, so the absolute earliest we could get a new comic is November.

Like I said, if we don't get something next week...I don't know if we should expect ANYTHING until next year at the earliest. Boom might be waiting to do a big coordinated release for when Hasbro actually does something. And Hasbro might be waiting until...situations improve. If so...we might be waiting a while. So, we'll see.
