Toys All that glitters is... Optimus Prime? Golden TRU Hong Kong deluxe G1 Op exclusive revealed

Toys R Us Hong Kong recently took to Instagram to show off a shiny upcoming exclusive. Buyers picking up HK$2500 (same-day single-receipt) of Transformers product at the Harbor City TRU get a "Transformers Movie 40th Anniversary" Optimus Prime in Golden Lagoon (or Lucky Draw, if you like) deco! He seems to still be bringing his original accessories, which aren't included in the fancy gold chrome treatment -- and a closer look seems to indicate that while he's transformable,, the figure (at least the copy for the poster) doesn't seem to be a new casting in gold plastic (as evidenced by the bits of red peeking out).

Ardent collectors of the Autobot leader had better hurry, as this redeco of the Legacy United Deluxe class figure is limited to only 40 copies worldwide!

Please ignore the fact that he still seems to have those potentially-melty plasticizer wheels

"Hey Optimus, what'd you do, get a haircut or something?" "LOOK CLOSER, BEE!"

2500 HK dollars is about 320 US, assuming the prices aren't already converted. If they are not, that's a lot of money. If they are, that's a LOT of money...

2500 HKD gets you about a Bandai Chogokin or Sentinel figure or two. So many HK toy collectors spend those money in a toy hunt morning. It's finding 2500 worth of HASBRO TF figures that's difficult for them. E.g. Takara's MPG won't qualify.

It looks like it's just a regular Legacy United G1 Op slathered in gold paint (some unpainted hinge bits in that altmode), so maybe not GPS. I wonder if the coat of paint might actually insulate the hubs from the plasticizer breakdown of the tires...

So the Golden Lagoon could protect from tires AND lasers! A two-fer!

Seriously, though, the package should be ok, and I imagine very few people will be taking this out of the box and setting it on a shelf, but I might as well default to my favorite conspiracy theory:

"PLASTICIZER CAN'T MELT CARDBOARD SPACERS!!!"
