I've always viewed the Headmaster Beasts as suffering from "early wave" syndrome, where they were the obvious first offerings and so were made before the team had settled into a solid groove with the line. By the time we got to the standouts you mentioned, they'd worked out the kinks in the line.

Eccleston was my first. I caught it as it was coming back and thought it was fun enough and stuck with it. I know he had his reasons for leaving, but Eccleston really did deserve better. At the very least it would have been nice if he could have come back for the 50th, but it is what it is.
