Well, I saw a video at D23 where the series creator said that he always loved 3D CGI animation and made some back in college about the time that Toy Story was coming out, and everyone loved it. I suppose that this is his doing not the studios making him make it in horrible CGI.

Nothing major comes to mind that came out theatrically in the last 15 years or so. A lot of the 2D movies I have seen were direct to Home Media like the DC super hero films.
