I'd go with Godzilla 2000 for the memories. I'd never recommend Final Wars. It's clearly somebody's unrelated dream project that begrudgingly includes Toho monsters just to get the movie funded. Everyone laughs at the Zilla fight but most fights in that movie don't last much longer.

I actually wouldn't want him to be fully in charge. It has to be a partnership. Bay and Spielberg have crazy different styles but they obviously worked well together. They clearly were not making the same movie. Spielberg made a friendly alien movie and Bay made a not so friendly alien movie...
