It's pretty wild they went with Mindwipe. Most customs I've seen do a great job using Blot; seems like it wouldn't have been too difficult to replace the combiner peg with a compartment and Titan Master neck socket.

Definitely getting this, but I'm sad there's no Metalhead faceplate.

2013 did have Megaplex, so I can throw them that bone. But lol, what a box set. I don't even know what molds would go to these, but these seem like a match for the 2013 lineups. Box set: Megatron, Waspinator, Dinobot, G1 Razorclaw, G1 Divebomb Attendee exclusives: Tigatron/Buzz Saw...

We should talk, lol. Squeezeplay and Tarantulas are really the only things I want from this set. But that Prime Cliffjumper is TEMPTING. The Chase mold is solid and this color scheme looks great on it. Not sure I need it AS Cliffjumper though; I wonder if anyone will bother making a 3P Chase...

People aren't particularly strident in treasuring MW Hoist, but that's as much because people aren't particularly strident in treasuring MW in general. I think it's less about people having a particular attachment to Hubcap or Hoist and more that, again, it's yet another notch in the "we're...

It's pretty stunning that they did THREE reasonably distinct roof-chest/hood-leg bots competently (Wheeljack, Sunstreaker, Runamuck) and then decided to go in this... direction with Tracks. So much of the design didn't need to be as complicated as they made it.

While that's true, it's seemingly the only one on the horizon, and exists to catch a batch of stuff that may have been too late to cancel outright. Idk. I mean, I'd LOVE to see it continue, but we're a pretty long way from the somewhat steady stream of releases from the first 2-3 years or so...

    Transformers Legacy toyline

I think that's a perfect summation actually. All the problems come in when it's time to actually handle the thing. Pictures can expose (or downplay) the awkward hollowness of the torso, but the real iffy experience is in transforming the thing back and forth and then trying to pose it.

Part of why it would've been a decent move to just line him up in the "minimal redeco and just replace clear with opaque" subline. Just run the mold again with some color/paint changes rather than spend anything on a new mold. Between the opportunity to tweak the leg panels (or just get luckier...

I'm not against these toys existing, and the characters were absolutely well-used in the narrative (which I've been consistently saying I also liked). But the tradeoff inevitably is that about half the set is now no longer on theme (not counting how these characters are retroactively placed in...

It's nice trivia, but I don't mind the Highbrow body (and may even prefer it to the Lugnut body). It's a great fit for Obsidian. I didn't mind a lot about that arc. G2 Redux and the two Machine Wars stories were okay and made use of a fun lineup of characters. But there were indeed some...

    The Repaint Concept Thread

It was definitely a strange situation (that happened to work out well narratively). Obsidian and Strika were brilliant designs well-executed, but inevitably took away from the set theme. IDK how well a box set of Prime, Megatron, Hoist, Skywarp, and Mirage would have done, alongside attendee...

Machine Wars (the 1997 original) was such a fascinating little capsule. Entirely new lineup, name reuses in a still continuity-oriented era that more strongly called for fiction with explanations for how x character is now in y body or z state of being alive (as opposed to decades hence, when...

The more I see of Sunstreaker the more he looks like the star of the set (well, next to Hound who kind of is by default). It's a great shade of yellow and the deco is crisp. Also looking forward to a Jazz that i won't be as nervous to transform. But in the realm of de-clear-plasticking these...

Suspension of disbelief has nothing to do with it, for me. Not consciously, at least. I'm not really concerned about "looks like it could happen", I'm concerned about "looks good" or "fits with the rest of it". Smooth liquid metal faces wouldn't look good, especially in conjunction with...

I have no problem with the glasses on ROTB Wheeljack. It's a neat little affectation and can add some charm. What I don't like is the way the current design style does faces. Mirage is fine, Arcee less so, Wheeljack just... Bleargh. Lots of strips of metal approximating flexible skin, and slap...

I like the cUstoms I've seen-- of the Core figure with I think the Cybertronian Wheeljack head and the other with a Cybertron Downshift head. Colors kept as is.
