The Kaiju Thread of Building-Smashing, Flame-Breathing, and Slam-Dunking

Well, I'm not a huge Matthew Broderick fan anyway. Not having seen it recently, let me hazard a guess theory: maybe it's a decent Kaiju film, just not a good Godzilla film?

The Kaiju Thread of Building-Smashing, Flame-Breathing, and Slam-Dunking

You know, I watched the 1998 Godzilla once. I hadn't watched any Godzilla movies before that one and even then I knew it was a "in name only" movie hated by everyone. So even as someone who wasn't a fan of the franchise and had no stake in the game, I still had nothing but disdain for it. Now...

The Kaiju Thread of Building-Smashing, Flame-Breathing, and Slam-Dunking

Last time I tried watching the original King Kong, I fell asleep. It's a fair question, calling it arthouse. I may have overreached. But at the least, it still had more classic material than this. Like, honestly, give it 20-30 years, I doubt anyone will even remember the Monsterverse movies.

He-Man, and also the Masters of the Universe

Interesting. It seems like this they're trying to do something new with the character with each iteration, like...not in a buzzsaw/flying fists kind of way, but more of a "any reason why there can't be wings" kind of way.

Okay, next up is Kong: Skull Island. I actually have seen this one before, but only once. And I'm thinking I may confuse some scenes with scenes I've seen from other Kong movies. So this should still be interesting. 1944? Do all these movies start out around WWII? The original King Kong was...

He-Man, and also the Masters of the Universe

Could very well be. I don't remember it before now. Usually when companies try to go for a G1 look (He-Man, Transformers, TMNT), I can sometimes be a stickler for detail. But for some reason, I actually quite like the wings.

The Kaiju Thread of Building-Smashing, Flame-Breathing, and Slam-Dunking

Well, like I said, I vaguely remember watching at least part of a Godzilla movie with Bryan Cranston, but it must have only been part of it, because I remember none of any of that. I'm not sure how I feel about a Godzilla movie where Godzilla is a good guy. But I have to admit, I was...

The Kaiju Thread of Building-Smashing, Flame-Breathing, and Slam-Dunking

That's cool. I already started Godzilla. I seem to vaguely remember seeing a Godzilla movie with Cranston in it before...like...once. But I don't remembeer anything from it. So this ought to be interesting.

He-Man, and also the Masters of the Universe

I got this at Target today. At first I was going to use a gift card, but found out it hadn't been activated yet. So I saved it. But since this is the first time I've seen New Eternia Mosquitor, and since it was only $10...I wasn't about to let it slip through my fingers. I don't know when...

Well, I got a gift card for Christmas...which doesn't really do me any good with Amazon, but Walmart managed to come through. So I'm going to set down with a warm drink, and I guess Godzilla 2014 is the starting point. If I'm going by the back of the case: 1. Godzilla 2014 2. Kong: Skull Island...

So...having some time away from this, I mean, not much has changed. But I think I would like to circle back to MacKensie. No, my view on him has not changed. . I hate his design. I hate his personality. I hate everything about him. BUT, would I hate him so freaking much if they took out the...

Caldwin's latest obsession (subject to change)

So after I talked about some of the cyberpunk movies/books I've been watching/reading, someone suggested Videodrome. I honestly forget if it was someone here or at work...maybe both. So I got it today for Christmas and just finished watching it. It...was not what I expected. Like, to me, this...

True enough. Just gotta wait until payday. Oy, this rabbit hole seems to keep getting deeper.

    Ninja Turtles - Cowabunga!

Kinda funny in a cheeky kinda way. But I can't help but note that the same observation wasn't made when Mona Lisa was introduced. Overall, given that none of the Archie era characters really totally look like their old counterparts (except maybe Cudly), at least she hits enough points that I...

    Ninja Turtles - Cowabunga!

On the one hand, end of the era stories are always sad and I do have quite the Playmates TMNT collection. On the other hand, enough other companies are making TMNT toys for various price points, TMNT fans won't exactly be going hungry any time soon. Franchises hopping between companies, for...

The Kaiju Thread of Building-Smashing, Flame-Breathing, and Slam-Dunking

Shin Godzilla: Well, it wasn't the worst movie ever. But of the three Godzilla movies I've seen, I'm afraid it does go in third place. I don't know if the bureaucracy was deliberate satire, but holy hell, did they ever make you feel it, so much so that the pacing really dragged in some places...
