That's part of Gunn's charm; not only will include the weird comic stuff, he'll find a way to make it work. On Paper, GotG should never have worked, its a super obscure team with a lot of weirdness that at the time you could only really get in comics. Yet it became a rival to Avengers in popularity.

I do kinda like the idea that Yoda might have been meddling off screen. He knows he couldn't take Palpatine on, on a good day; so finding other smaller ways to help or interfer while keeping off radar feels kinda on brand for him. He's from a very long lived race and is always teaching patience...

Yoda really is at his best when he's mischievous and wise at the same time. But then I've always like the trope that wise doesn't mean serious.

Yes, and its not like the Doctor hasn't used Aliases previously when he's trying to be incogneto and "Autonomous Maximus" sounds very much like a name made up on the spot.
