According to the way people who actually study myth, legend, and folkore distinguish between between those three, it's only a myth if it focuses on gods and/or the origins of things; a culturally important story that's about important people is a legend.

I don't see how. If they can "reconcile" anything that means they're not believing the parts that contradict what is actually known for a fact.
(Or they're rejecting the parts of science that their beliefs contradict, in which case, yes, they are in fact in the reality-denier category.)

In real life, we do know a lot from science, history, and archeology; not everything, but enough to say that most detailed mythologies have been proven to not be literally true, and that most conspiracy...

I think it's too late to make "nobody from then is still around" work with the Thirteen.
Half the group consists of characters who appeared in the present in their first appearance, often before they were ever considered part of the Thirteen.
If the purpose is to encourage more consumption, funding it with sales taxes (and a tariff is just an extra sales tax on imports) is counterproductive.
But then they'll claim (often in direct defiance of the obvious) that older movies and shows were more nuanced (and/or that their politics were less important to them) than the newer ones they want to complain about.
