I'd recommend Mega Man 5 as a good place to start, if difficulty is the issue, or perhaps 10 in Easy Mode. 8 is a bit of an oddball entry with segments that can throw even series veterans. I think the Legacy Collections offer various tools to help series beginners, too. If that's not the issue...
