Carly was Sam's new gf in DotM and Sam was clearly a live action adaptation of Spike... in so far as they used his last name and gave him a first name that starts with S.
That's kind of an outlier though? The Beast Era didn't feature any (anatomically modern) humans and RiD, Armada, Energon...
Counterpoint- they're names fans know and do a lot of legwork to get people invested in them from go.
Also... again... it's not like Spike, Carly, etc... have been used over and over and over. Spike was far from the human viewpoint character in IDW1, which is probably his most prominent usage...
Pretty much how I feel. Jetfire and Bumblebee's usage shows this won't just be Sunbow G1 Again. It's using its starting point as... well... a starting point for a new mythos.
Another thing is I don't want Marvel G1 again. I don't want the G1 cartoon again. Agreed and co-signed.
But I'm also well aware that the G1 cartoon setup is pretty well known in the pop culture sphere and yet it's sort of been crystallized in G1- it's never really been re-invented. Which seems...
I think you may be off base in two ways.
First, as has been pointed out, there's a lot of stuff in the current iteration(s) of the brand that aren't G1. Even Generations, which has traditionally been the G1 revival tour, has been getting increasingly varied to the point that we're getting and...
I don't think I am?
And please note I'm not trying to be argumentative here. I'm just explaining why I, personally, found this first issue of this new series interesting, engaging, and good.
Right. I don't just want the G1 MtMtE opening, but I like the idea of revisiting that setup as a starting point and seeing what can be done with it with, as you said, modern standards.
Between doing that, the art style, the sort of timeless quality the Earthbound setting has, the space fantasy...
I think that sort of gets to the root of what I find so refreshing about Skybound so far. A lot of people seem to be angry at it for "rehashing" the G1 cartoon's premise, but really? A lot of this stuff seems refreshing in light of the stuff we've gotten since the 07 movie. It's a "back to...
Jetfire's expedition to "save" Cybertron seems to suggest he was looking for a solution for centuries but was in stasis himself for millions of years.
Either way it's unclear what the exact chronology is but hundreds of years, millions, ultimately I'm just happy the story beat of Transformers...
First, I'd disagree with your last point. Back in the 70s/80s the concern was America's dependence on foreign oil but these days the amount of oil period is the concern. You could still weave a timely story about that.
Secondly to your broad point... yeah. I get that.
Thing is, that the...
I really liked it. The art is stunning, in the best way.
And I don't even mind going with the MtMtE setup because really... when was the last time it was reinvented?
In fact using the very broad strokes "G1 cartoon" setup as a base to tell new stories is pretty inspired to me in a world where...
The way the robot mode arms just sit there at the sides, bolted onto the side of the cab, and the slightly off proportions all around to accommodate the armour gimmick limit the standalone robot mode.
If you hypothetically made an Optimus Prime out of a truck that looked like that, and it...
Mostly agree, but Override proves there are improvements to be made. Sure she lost her Cyber Key gimmick, but on the whole it's a better proportioned and poseable figure than the original. So I'm not against them taking cracks at Cybertron just to see what they can do. They might surprise us...
