No you don't. You can just read the TF stuff and be fine.
As for if it's any good? I'm in love with what Skybound is doing and if it can keep up this pace then it's going to quickly become my favourite G1 comic continuity.
Transformers is uniquely positioned to do it because even as a kid in the 90s during the neon G2 deluge we were thinking "what if X from Y was a Transformer?"
I can only imagine what it was like for kids in the 80s when stuff like Ghostbusters and Knight Rider was recent.
Anyway some...
I'd buy every single figure in a line all about Orion Pax's many career. Every. Single. One.
Yeah. Sentinel gives them a nice repair session in his personal quarters, gives them a tour of every mining pit to motivate the work force, then puts them back to work.
Not a bad plan from an evil...
It's a good idea, but IMO it has never really be realized. Megatron already felt like he was power hungry and violent, just waiting for an excuse in Exodus, the main version of that story in Aligned.
A story where naive and bookish librarian Orion Pax and miner-turned-idealistic revolutionary...
The entire Protestant Reformation- and the religious history of the Western world- was forever altered because one priest was tired of hearing a monk of his named Martin Luther constantly confessing about every little thing. So he told him to "study the Bible" just to get him out of his hair.
All of that is true but it's also a movie less than two hours long. It had to fit a lot of narrative into the run time.
I suppose you could have paced it so that it ends with Sentinel's forces capturing Alpha Trion and Orion, D-16, Bee, and Elita vowing to rescue him and topple Sentinel's...
Action? Sure, but I feel like Skybound had managed more heart and successful character moments in twelve issues then Bay managed in five feature films.
There's some chatter about this on YT. The view tends to be that Sentinel actually did mean to congratulate and reward them as their exploits in the race increased mining productivity, which as we later find out Sentinel really wants. And him saying he'll send them on a tour of all the mines to...
The Aligned version always rubbed me the wrong way because Megatron as this miner turned gladiator had hints of "he was always a violent psychopath wasn't he?" which is a far less interesting character.
Maybe it's just me, but I didn't read the story in Exodus as "D-16 opens Orion Pax's eyes"...
Sorry? I answered why the comic reading portion of the fandom was ok with it and that part slipped my mind. Hardly worth getting angry about.
The context is that Megatron went missing when the Ark crashed on Earth, with only his arm left in the wreckage. Meanwhile Optimus lost an arm in a...
DiC's G1 continuation may have made fan reception of S3 and the Rebirth more positive in retrospect. Like "G1 ended when it went to DiC, the DiC season(s) were awful."
I can see it as something that got a positive reassessment in the late 2000s, until today when its offerings and designs made...
The major new "lore" ideas TF One introduced that I hope stick are Zeta Prime as the last of the Thirteen (just kill that "Optimus is the Arisen" bs) and Orion Pax as a miner alongside D-16/Megatron.
Orion Pax has had a lot of jobs if you think about it... dock worker, archivist, cop...
