I am sure that there is a lot of beta cannon answers for that. However, canon wise, we don't know much. Just what Kirk says at the beginning of 6 when he is arguing with Spock.
That was done intentionally. See it leaked out to the newsletters and fandom that they were bringing Spock back. So to compensate for this major spoiler, they decided to shock the audience by blowing up the Enterprise.

We got a NES the Summer before the SNES came out. So we got a lot of the games at a good discount. A couple years later, we upgraded to a Genesis, and a couple years after that my older brother bought the Link to the Past bundle. That was an epic game, but I still primarily played Sega genesis...

Love the fair episode. The first time that they feel his emotions was epic! It got over used, but it was great at first. Cosmos being voiced by Weird Al was great! I hope that we see more of him this season...
