I guess eventually they'll run out of Republicans to nominate and they'll have to vote for Jeffries.
(Or, I guess, more likely they'll start on Republicans who aren't members of Congress)
Making it anonymous would definitely make it worse for the Republicans. There's a non-zero possibility some of them would be so fed up with their party, that they'd vote for the Democrat nominee, and the Republican party would tear itself apart even more with suspicion and accusations.
