A part of me likes to think that, if DiC had produced a continuation of G1, they would have kept Peter Cullen as Optimus Prime and Frank Welker as Galvatron, Soundwave, and probably a few other guys. Also, Maurice LaMarche did do some voicework for the original show.

Only if they can get a reasonable approximation of Nathan Fillion, and they can promise that the resulting character will forever aim to misbehave.

I'd argue that the WfC Trilogy has done better, if only because there's a story attached to it. A less than ideal story, yes, but that's better than nothing. Both have given us some great toys, however.
