Yeah, Takara does charge a lot but I dunno about comparing unlicensed toys manufactured in China to the official toys manufactured in Vietnam(?). I'd chalk it up to the guardian robot having a market that is a niche of a niche, having gigantic packaging and having to coordinate a new run of...
It works well enough as vague background setting. They could have made it more specific but ultimately, that just wasn't their priority and I mostly agree.
Maybe on a sale or something. $120 is a lot for a novelty but it is indeed a very novel novelty.
Cartoon colors misses the point so hard that it would just be wasting money.
To be fair, anything 3D printed bigger than a couple centimeters turns out jive.
Also, PMOP may have the most low-effort character model ever. They couldn't even get the left to match the right.
It looks like it may be smoother if you don't go base mode.
I get that it's a way to up the tension but god, is Fatal Frame's overly clunky movement annoying. Makes OG Resident Evil's tank controls look like olympic gymnastics
Aside from the odd choice of using screws and pins to lock transformation stuff (which might end up a problem down the road, IDK), I don't see what's particularly bad about it. Lots of accordion panel folding or maybe the head panel I guess? Not great but it's not horrible.
Dumb decision to sell the trailer alone aside, this looks pretty good. It even has the weirdass grill face from the comics, a decent base mode and some semblance of trailer space. Terrifying-looking ab crunch though.
The vans already have very posable arms by G1 standards, all they need are elbows and wrists. It shouldn’t be too hard to get leg articulation out of it if they put in an actual pelvis instead of the 2D facade the original toys had.
Probably because the transformation is terrible. Seriously, Look at this crap.
At 9:50 and 12:00 Dude has to do a bunch of steps in a very specific order, including moving stuff only partway, flipping a panel then undoing the first step, moving another panel, then moving the first part all the...
I don't think it was unreasonable to expect them to come up with a new chunk of trailer that does something more substantial when they decided to engineer new hips and thighs to make Menasor arbitrarily taller.
There was that company making chibi citybots with optional kits to de-chibify them. That company making cubeformers also teased one to go with their trypticon.
That said, at 18 inches, this new one is about as small as I’d expect a Metroplex to get since it's designed for legends class toys...
This thing has my interest. It's jam-packed with features, looks great and if the listed price is to be believed, relatively affordable. It's a tad short for titans but eh, at some point, scale just doesn't matter.
Sticking a handle on the box doesn't solve the problem of it existing in the first place. It's also an absurdly unwieldy thing and will probably do a number on the elbow joints.
I find Bumblebee to be the most egregious. Megatron just needs a different cannon, Prime just needs mudflaps and maybe gap fillers and Barricade's kibble is more or less where it's supposed to be, just bigger due to restrictions of three dimensional space. I don't think there's any easy solution...
