There are two versions of Studio Series Perceptor. You got the second version, which has a retooled chest and arms because someone at Hasbro wasn't satisfied with the accuracy of the first version. It was already fine, but they made it better, I guess.

I've never owned the original so I don't know how cooperative the joints are, but the arms should be able to squish together in microscope mode.
G1 joints scare me. They're so creaky and squeaky.
I wouldn't mind the lack of elbows so much if the alt modes were more accomplished, but aside from Sky-Byte they don't look finished. And Sky-Byte has the advantage of being silly enough that there's very little that could have been wrong with it. I do like how the transformations work, but they...
I doubt it. Mattel and Hasbro love to take turns not learning from each other's mistakes.
I'm glad they're doing crossovers now. They've always seemed like rivals that should have been friends.
