Can we really say it was cancelled when it successfully reached the 65-episode minimum requirement that FOX originally ordered? Sure, the final episode ended on a cliffhanger, but that was a gamble to give the show an extension beyond its original 65-episode count. While it didn't receive an...
They were trying to push boundaries and create something exceptional, though, like how Batman TAS, X-Men TAS, Gargoyles, and Spider-Man TAS all were. The latter three were also very serialized shows. They didn't want Beast Wars to be just another run-of-the-mill toy tie-in.
To say nothing of how much Hasbro tried to stifle Forward and DiTillio in their creative efforts during Beast Wars:
Bob/Larry: "We wanna set Beast Wars out in space, with the characters on going from planet to planet aboard a starship, Star Trek-style."
Hasbro: "No, you have to make it set on a...
Well, they're clogging up the pegs more than anything. I barely see any other Transformers toys at Walmart anymore that aren't TF One or 2023 EarthSpark toys.
I feel like the IDW BW series was mandated by Hasbro to be as familiar and similar to the cartoon as possible, but told in a new way, in order to tie-in with the Kingdom toyline (regardless of how loose a tie-in it ended up being). Brand consistency and all that.
Nah, that started with TFTM killing Optimus Prime. And again with Action Masters. ;)
And with hindsight, we can place blame on the proper parties responsible, which were Hasbro and Dan DiDio. It was their hubris that was to blame, as they both wanted Beast Machines to be a fresh start as far...
A Machine Wars cartoon was also something that fans wouldn't stop pestering Bob and Larry about at the time, when they both had no idea about it and nothing to do with such a series.
Like, reading through that ATT archive I made for Bob and Larry's posts on there, and the rest of the posts in...
Yeah, and you could totally get a giant Autobot truck-and-trailer body out of a single Maximal protoform (which is all Rhinox had to work with). I mean, come on, it's not like the afterlife isn't like a shopping mall where you can just grab any soul you want from it.
True story: Back when Beast Wars was still new and the episode where Rhinox revives Optimus Primal as a Transmetal was first aired, there were people online whining and moaning about why Rhinox revived Optimus Primal instead of reviving some G1 Autobot character like Optimus Prime or Ironhide...
Just imagine if ROTB had released when it originally intended. The Studio Series toys for that movie would have come a whole year later. Instead, the SS ROTB toys released concurrent to the movie's release because the movie itself was delayed by a year. Serendipity and all that is a funny thing.
If I may speak candidly yet respectfully, should we really be encouraging such handholding when the thread in question is (as of this typing) directly below this one on the main Transformers Discussion forum page that he has historically been able to see, access, and navigate with no problem?
