Power Rangers General Discussion Thread

Compact Editions are basically manga-sized collections of comics sold at a slightly cheaper price. DC started doing them, and they seem to be a hit, so other companies are jumping onboard the bandwagon. Various companies have done the same thing before over the years, but it seems to have come back around.

I didn’t know about these! You just made my wallet lighter (they had Kingdom Come).

The June solicitations are starting to come out, which means we finally get to see this new Mighty Morphin Power Rangers book that Boom has been teasing.

And they get all new costumes! Check them out under the spoilers.

And my commentary on these new suit designs:
So, yeah. They're basically the classic MMPR suits...just maybe slightly worse?

I don't know, maybe that's harsh. But, I think moving the diamonds so that they're all together in the center of the suit just kind of ruins the color balance of the suits. It's a lot of white empty space, right in the middle of the suit. Before the white was more spread out evenly, which I think I like better. I think it'd be better if they had their giant gold coin icons in the middle of the diamonds or something. But, with nothing inside those diamonds, they just come across as unfinished.

Also, the Morphers on the belts are looking a lot more circular than the original versions. I don't know how I feel about that. It's not a terrible change, but I do feel like it's streamlining things just so that you can say you streamlined them.

Although, I do think the different shades of their classic colors on their suits has potential. I like the idea of the suits having lighter and darker versions of their colors to give their suits more variety.

But, overall, I think these are just a little too close to the classic suits. They're "off" just enough to come across as "knockoffs" at a glance. Not the biggest fan of these new suits. Though, I am curious what the Green or White Ranger looks like, in this style.

Maybe I'll grow to like them more once I see some more interior art? We'll see. They're not completely terrible or anything. But, Boom has done better suit designs in the past, in my opinion.

ConnerTheWaffle has finally reached the peak of the Neo-Saban Era (admittedly, not a high bar, but still):

Something weird just happened.

I'm watching Pluto TV and tuned into the Forever Kids channel to watch some MMPR. The episode "The Green Candle (Part I)" just started, and it began in a way that I did not expect it to. Before the theme song began, the old "Today on Power Rangers" preview segment narrated by the late great Dave Mallow (rest in peace) played like it did back in the day.

The thing is, the Shout! Factory DVD releases of MMPR removed every single one of the "Today on Power Rangers" segments in order to save disc space on the DVDs (specifically on the complete season DVD sets).

This is the first time I can recall ever seeing a "Today on Power Rangers" segment play on Pluto TV's airings of MMPR, which led me to believe previously that Pluto had sourced its MMPR episodes from the Shout! Factory DVDs. And yet, here we have a "Today on Power Rangers" segment preceding the episode despite the Shout! Factory set getting rid of those. So how can there be a "Today on Power Rangers" segment if the episode's source got rid of them all?

And the version of the episode I'm watching is neither the 2010 reversion with the added special effects nor the Re-Ignition version from Netflix.

EDIT: "Part II" started right after, and it began with the theme song and no "Today on Power Rangers" segment.

The version that's up on the official Youtube channel also has the "Today on Power Rangers" opening. So...maybe the DVDs missed removing one? Does anyone have the DVDs handy to check that one specific episode?

So, ConnerTheWaffle did a reaction and ranking video for all of the Power Rangers theme songs and he said something in the video that made me realize something.

He said something along the lines of "You can't have a Power Rangers theme song without the word "Go" in the lyrics," (not a direct quote). And listening to all the theme songs across all 30 seasons of the show, I made a surprising realization:

Dino Thunder, RPM, and Cosmic Fury are the only theme songs that DON'T have the word "Go" in their lyrics.

That video messed up on both Lost Galaxy and Mystic Force, stopping on the second "Go" instead of the first (it's especially egregious in Mystic Force's intro since the first "Go" is the third word of the verse, while the second is at the very end of the verse).

ConnerTheWaffle has finally reached the whimper of an ending to the Neo-Saban Era:
