I'd already idly thought about getting it based on a bleary-eyed view first thing in the morning. He's THE Mini-Con guy, and there were enough neat bits about Micronus and the apex armor (but I couldn't figure out the armor's altmode, thought it was an ATV).

But once I'd gotten enough coffee in my system to realize Micronus turned into a freaking Mini-Con stasis panel and not a n RID2015 cyclone Mini-Con ball, this shot right up to Must Get status.

I'm still not sure how they could cram so many play features into a deluxe toy, but so many of the other 13 figures feel more like regular figures (Onyx & Megatronus aside).

Very nice to finally see a picture of how Micronus fits into the Apex Armor:

I mean, it wasn't really hard to figure out, but it's always nice to see it. Still hoping to see a similar setup used in the future for a Pretender or two. This looks really well integrated at the Deluxe price point, so I think a Voyager class would let them get a nice little Core-sized inner robot into a reasonably sized and articulated shell.

about the only thing I don’t like is thearms Naruto running in unicycle mode. Even bending the elbows would be a big difference in making them not look like arms.
There's something charmingly ad hoc and "obviously not a disguise" about it IMO. Like, pre-Earth (or Nebulan, etc.) altmodes don't have to look like anything in particular, so why not just have one's arms stick out?

(As a toy or display piece, yeah, it's visually lacking. As much as I can justify "turns into a weird thing," I prefer altmodes to look cool.)

Ha, I just found an old note on my phone where I tried to guess what size class the 13 would be.

1. Prima - Leader (Wrong)
2. Vector Prime - Voyager (Right)
3. Alpha Trion - Deluxe (Wrong)
4. Solus Prime - Voyager (Wrong)
5. Micronus Prime - Core (Wrong, not my fault the size-class died though!)
6. Alchemist Prime - Voyager (Wrong)
7. Nexus Prime - Titan (Wrong)
8. Onyx Prime - Leader (Right)
9. Amalgamous Prime - Commander (Wrong - Though I was imagining him as a retool of RiD Megatron/Gigatron)
10. Quintus Prime - Deluxe (Right)
11. Liege Maximo - Voyager (Wrong)
12. Megatronus the Fallen - Leader (Right)

33% right. Ouch. Though, to be fair, had I known core class wasn't going to be a thing, I would have upgraded Micronus to deluxe.

I don't care about The Thirteen. I will never care about The Thirteen. This thing looks fun as heck.
I think it's cool how they've been innovative with these figures.

Megatronus does nothing unique, but he's easily the most fun and chunky Leader we've had in a while.

Prima has the deep cut that is his FFoD head.

Solus has neat touches like her elf shoes and blacksmith apron that imply some characterization the actual fiction has just failed to give her.

Alchemist has his dapper bartender gentleman head sculpt.

Onyx looks like a totally nuts beastformer the likes of which we haven't seen in a while.

Alpha Trion has a book and pen! How often do you see that? And even more Sunbow deep cuts.

And Micronus is a Minicon wearing power armour, which no one saw coming.

They could have made a bunch of fine but kinda dull figures based off of the CoP art but they've really tried to do something fun and unique with these guys, or at the very least give the designs some fun personality they didn't have before.

wonko the sane?

You may test that assumption at your convinience.

Yeah, as a concept: they are more powerful in mythology. As pillars of culture, and latent lines of society buried within the whole of cybertronian culture. As a means of forming communities outside of alt mode, or political ideology.

Still a toy line though, so I am not complaining about figures. And starting to agree with folks: I think I might be more excited about micronus than onyx now. They just did such a good job on the minicon head tooling! He's got a biog assed smirk for a guy who can get stepped on!

Conceptually I've always preferred them to be out of reach, intangible fiction-only elements of history. I've always been in that weird in-between space where I did and didn't want toys. (This never includes Alpha Trion, whom I've always wanted a toy of since before he got folded into the Thirteen.)

But I genuinely appreciate how much fun and thought the team has out into these. It shows that they embraced the semiblankness of the slate afforded by these and turned out some neat product.

I'm mainly holding back on this (aside from Micronus and maybe Alpha Trion... maaaaybe Solus and Megatronus, but the rest I can admire from afar) due to space and budget concerns (that Star Convoy is going to make me cut a LOT of things from a lot of lists). But it's been fun so far to see how the team has really run with the opportunity.

I liked 'em better when they weren't Primes.

Heck, I like the Covenant better!
