I want to see Hasbro revisit the clones sometime. I love the little Legends-class guys, but I'd really like to see them done as Deluxes. And this time, let's not stop at just the original G1 pairs. At a minimum, I'd like to see a third clone for each side, with an aquatic alt mode. I'd probably like to see more, but I'll admit that two sets of nigh-identical triplets is probably already pushing it.

I'm still a little baffled that Hasbro rereleased the Takara versions of the Decepticon Clones in the west but didn't rerelease either version of the Autobot Clones.

didn’t the Decepticon clones shelfwarm badly? Might have contributed to their decision. IIRC they were also at an awkward pricepoint for Hasbro

For those who'd rather not use the giant Star Optimus Prime toy as the Thirteenth Prime/the Arisen because of how much he towers over all the other members of the Thirteen, I just saw someone mention the idea of repurposing the new AOTP Energon Optimus Prime as the Thirteenth/the Arisen instead.

I was originally going to pass on this figure, but this idea is kinda making me want it now, breakage issues and all.

I was thinking it might be nice to use movie Protoform Op (or the clear blue one) for that role too, now that another mold is taking up the Prima role. Kind of works with the Covenant art style at that.

But this is a nice looking design too. Either would work.

You know, as I was making that post and looking at that art, that very thought crossed my mind, too.

And there are three good choices for that mold, too, (even if one of the three is really expensive and rare).

The 2007 version:

The "Fusion Cluster Edition" (a.k.a. the "really expensive and rare" one):

I mean, if one really wanted to lean into the "the Thirteenth is Optimus", there's also the Movie Advanced one. But if one wanted to steer clear of that or leave some plausible deniability, can't go wrong with any of these. The Fusion Cluster one is gorgeous.

(Part of me wants to track down that clear Starscream too; I wonder if there are any durability concerns for either.)

I should also point out that, according to Aaron Archer, the art of the Thirteenth was deliberately made faceless so as to lean into that original intended ambiguity of his identity.

The Movie Advanced one... kinda goes far and away in the opposite direction of that original intended ambiguity. ;)

Yeah, that's another reason why those two are so "expensive and rare", nowadays, unfortunately.

Also if you happen to have one of the clear blue Matrixes from either SS '86 Hot Rod or Legacy G1 Optimus, you can pair that with him.

Did anybody forget to listen to this today?

The music in that battle sequence was certainly memorable.

But the dialogue, and Josh Duhamel's frustration under fire, really sell that scene.

It's hard to believe that Michael Bay, Roberto Orci, and Alex Kurtzmann could make me just a little bit nostalgic for the days of A War on A Concept, nearly 20 years after that film came out, but here we are.
