My Adventures With Superman

Looks like I guessed wrong about who the Kryptonian Warrior from the Season 1 finale was. Though, no one could have seen them recasting her voice actress, anyway.

They got DBZ in our Superman!!!!
Tell me about it! This season has been the most "anime" a Superman cartoon has ever been. Even the music feels like how 90s anime dubs used to replace the J-pop insert songs of action scenes with rock 'n' roll music tracks.

I don't have the means to watch it: so I torrent it when the season ends: I've been trying to avoid spoilers.
I just watch it on Adult Swim's website.

wonko the sane?

You may test that assumption at your convinience.

Yeah, the adult swim website streaming is functionally region locked because you need an american cable provider to sign in and take advantage.

I actually finished this the other day and I ended up really like the conclusion! Like, I wasn't wild about all the government stuff and Lois' dad since I wanted it to be more of Superman living day to day and some rom com. I raised an eyebrow when Supergirl was suddenly there and acting like a batch.

But all the dramatic action came up and it was just awesome, haha. I get the AT field from Neon Genesis Evangelion but what's the FLCL reference?

Great on the Black Mercy, ok on Steel (I like Skipper and the glitter copter more), yay on Mallah and the Brain returning, cool on kid Lex (I actually expected him to run but come back with more firepower, aw), boo on Kara and Jimmy romance, extreme eyeroll on dumb Lois breaking up with Clark, love poor Jimmy's bankroll aaaaaw.

Btw, was it shown last season that Livewire and Heatwave were a couple? Or was it new for s2? I don't recall picking up on any hints.

The music during the big AT Field punch scene (which itself had some similar composition to the "Atavis hand coming down") was very FLCL-y, at least to my ears.

Saw My Adventure with Superman s3 ep1 Into the New World

Spoiler space or no spoiler space? It's been months.

Halloween ep.

Do not care for the romance of Kara and Flamebird.

Can't believe The Challengers of the Unknown appeared, gasp! But my Challengers were the 90s one with the diverse cast and X-Files feel. Awesome 18 issue series. Kenn Kawa and Marlon Corbet were my faves. They made easy elemental puns in the series.

I know the name Otto Binder but I'm confusing him with CC Beck or something. Shazam Captain Marvel creator? Must be Superman artist.

I had to look up the cast list at the credits to see who the Caliban pretty boy is. I was thinking Kamandi. Can't be Kon-El. But it was Bizarro. Why is he a pretty anime boy? Geez. They're totally going to disfigure him later.

Was puzzled by the creature with extra arms, especially when he had Freezing powers. Then it hit me. He's Superman TAS Kyrpto! The freaky pet Bizarro had in the show! But with actual Kryptonian powers since he had Kryptonian DNA! Wow!

Saw S3 ep2 Mobile Suit Toyman

Ugh, just realized they have the Kara Flamebird romance cuz there's no longer any will they won't they with Lois and Clark. Don't care. Don't like it.

Is the Whip a comic character? I've never heard of her. She's Russian, has a whip weapon (Iron Man's Whiplash), can drain Superman's life with Kryptonite (Omega Red).
I don't remember Toyman attacking Sam Lane in the previous seasons anymore. But his Gundam suit is copying... what design? The one with the dome head and single eye?

I thought it was Eradicator! But it's Hank in human form. So they combined the Eradicator with Cyborg? I guess pretty boy Bizarro is Kon El for Reign of the Supermen?

Saw s3 ep3 All's Fair in Love and Worms

I loved it! I should have hated it cuz of the Flamebird stuff but it's so breezy and cheesy that I loved it.

Kara in the mall is just normal and fun, haha. Superman with Bark Kent, what a name! Giganta as a scientist, nice.

Didn't expect the song sequence. Even though I didn't think it was a good song, it was still a good effort. Yes, I saw the Green Lantern ring.

Tazzala whatever their names are, I know is Queen Bee from Bilalya spelling. Don't know who's who but the pair made me think of Spinnerella and Netossa from Netflix She-Ra.

Silver Banshee coming back was nice. Especially with Clark trying to save her from Hank.

Yes, Elastic Lad reference. What's the wolf look from tho?

The ending made me shout. They're pulling a Kon El from the future?! It's exactly like Impulse from Young Justice animated! But also exactly like Kell El from Legion of Super-Heroes animated season 2! Don't know who the bald guy is but he's like Bart's bald Neutron or Superman X's K3NT parents. Not very original but still very cool!

There's a few different Whips. Some male, some female. You're excused from never hearing of any of them, because NONE of them are terribly memorable characters in the modern day. The Whip in this cartoon is probably the most memorable version of the character.

What? You don't recognize "The Wolf-Man of Metropolis"? It's one of Jimmy's classic transformations!

Zazzala and Tazzala are both character names from DC, but they never appeared together...this season saw a LOT of just using names without worrying about what the comics versions were like. (There's an upcoming-for-you one where they use the name a WWII-era Wonder Woman villain who was a Japanese Mad Scientist for a Markovian noblewoman and mad scientist.)

Markovian... Terra?

Didn't know Olsen was an official werewolf, twice. Looking at that pic, I'm very disappointed to find out that he was spiky cuz i thought his mishap in the 4th ep is a Legion reference Porcupine Pete, boo.

Anyhow ...

Saw s3 sp4 Guess Who's Slammin' to Dinner

I'm super hugely disappointed to find out that it's actually Jon Kent. I thought it was Kon El! Ugh! Take off that leather jacket, you thief! That style belongs to Kon El Superboy!

I had the Kesel Marz Kelly (final run where Kon is a Super as in a landlord, forgot writer name. Palmiotti?) Superboy run and as far as I recall, he never said Slammin'. Did, guh, Jon have this phrase?

Ugh, so I guess pretty boy Bizarro really is the Kon El clone. Maybe?

Yeah, I thought that spike mutation Flamebird is a Legion Substitute Hero Porcupine Pete reference. Guess not.

I remember during, before or after Death of Superman, there were underground mutations. There was a phaser who wanted to be called Packhorse and a giant frog that they used as a submersible (art by Jon Bognadove?). Might be Cadmus experiments? Either way, I recall Doomsday killed a couple of escapees in a page or two. One of those had a technique of dropping live grenandes and calling them Plan A or Plan B or something.

Are they related to these Subterranos?

I don't believe so. The comics Underworlders were indeed Cadmus refugees; DNAliens created by Dabney Donovan (one of them was Dubbilex, who was Superboy's mentor in the comics and turned up in the Young Justice cartoon).

The Subterranosauri only seem to have previously appeared in All-Star Superman.

Look, it was the 90s. Everyone was slammin' left and right. We didn't know any better.

I think eventually he stopped saying it. But, early on, it was a bit of a thing.

And this version of Superboy really is a combination of Jon and Kon. Really leaning more towards Kon. This show does enjoy doing it's own thing, from time to time. And just mixing things together.

Oh I stand corrected. But he might have been Slammin during Reign of the Supermen and stopped during his solo series.

I'll see how it goes but I dropped my tablet and it has a cracked screen now, ugh.

Edit - i know the name Dabney Donovan but he wasn't a focus when I read Reign. He had glasses and a big mustache. I felt like he was a guy wearing a fake disguise, haha. Dubbilex was great in the Superboy series and I'm glad he appeared briefly in Young Justice.

Edit again -

Saw s3 ep5 Death of Superman

43434.jpg

That was fast. Very action packed ep. I wasn't sure if Clark was going to survive, considering that it is the Death of Superman arc. It's not Doomsday but it actually felt like more was on the line cuz of Jon's presence.

The kryptonite fragments growing on Clark was gross. What was the blue heart thing in him? Looked weirdly mechanical.

Jon's story doesn't add up, unless he was narrating in time skips. It LOOKED like Clark died while Jon was a baby being carried by Kara. But the death scene was the same scene in the present, when Lois and Clark are currently dating. (Even if Lois is pregnant now without people knowing, no Jon baby to witness the murder).

So that future is still coming to pass. When Jon is born, Hank can still kill Clark. Jon was sent way too early in the timeline.

Why that comment about the kryptonite not affecting Jon? It was affecting him. That's why he had the anti kryptonite armor. He should have put that device on Clark, really. Would have been funny if they said the armor was tactile telekinesis, hehe. It practically is, if partial armor protects the whole body when it was divided.

Didn't realize the bald guy in the previous ep was Luthor. Jon going back to another bad future is like him being Silver the Hedgehog from the modern Sonic comics. Beating Hank removes that future so now its evil Lex and Eradicator bots. So later bad future is Steel slavery and final ep is Kon El vs Jon El clone uprising, muhahaha

Soooo we might see Blue Superman? Red and Blue? Millennium Giants?

Yeah, that's something they keep teasing. It sure does seem like it will have something to do with his "Electric Blue" powers, eventually. But, they're waiting a while to actually pay that off. It seems to be somehow tied to his emotions? Maybe they're tying a bit of Green Lantern lore into Kryptonian powers? I don't know, there is a "My Adventures with Green Lantern" series coming, so I wouldn't be surprised.

The idea seems to be that Jon's affected by Kryptonite less, because he's half human. It doesn't hurt him as badly as it does Superman, even without his shield. Of course, he's also weaker than Superman to start off with, so there's some trade offs.

Oh, the show didn't actually say he was weaker than Superman. I assumed he's as strong as Clark and Kara. (Jon in the comics is weaker too?)

Saw s3 ep6 Party Animals

Oh, he didn't get electric blue powers yet.

Ah, Dr. Poison was the Wonder Woman villain. From the movie too, right? Guess that's the Jimmy Turtle Boy reference now.

Don't know Silver St. Cloud. There's already Silver Banshee. Why another silver named person.

I've been waiting for the return of the Krypto creature with ice and extra arms. Isn't he with Bizarro? Where did he go?
