I definitely would have done the Awakening thing differently. I was actually quite liking it at first, when Optimus's spirit was standing there in front of "The One/Primus/Whatever". It was a very interesting mirror of Megatron's interaction with Unicron from the movie. I like the general idea of Transformer God convincing Optimus that it was time to stop fighting and move on, but not as in "you need to abandon the war" but instead "your time is over. I would have had Optimus come to realize this through some sort of less confusing vision quest, then ended the short at the moment that Rodimus picks up the Matrix inside of Unicron. Basically here at the end, we would see Optimus now watching events play out in the "real" world, and from the spirit world, he speaks out to Rodimus with the "Arise, Rodimus Prime" line, then lets his spirit pass on to the Matrix/Cybertron/Primus/what-have-you.

Going on the assumption that this is setting up a follow-up, have we considered the possibility that the One was an unreliable narrator?

If this whole trip was some kind of vision quest, then maybe that wasn't Megatron laughing evilly over the Matrix, but the puppet master gloating that he'd successfully tricked Optimus. For that matter, this could be the inside view of the Quintesson plot in "Dark Awakening."

Possibly the (planned) future arc would be post-death Optimus realizing he's been mislead and having to fight his way back from the actual afterlife.
Oh man, I wish I had enough faith in the people making TF media to believe that they were even capable of doing this kind of deep cut. I love the idea that Optimus was experiencing something else entirely while the Quints were manipulating him, and of a story that shows that to us in a way that fools us too.

I just want to say for the record that the alternate "Awakening" proposal I posted in another thread was an idea I came up with before I read this. The germ of my idea was how you ended yours: seeing the "Arise, Rodimus Prime" line from the other side. I do like how you're contextualizing it, showing what Optimus' spirit was up to between his death and that scene. Like there was this parallel spiritual drama that also had to play out in order for the pieces to be in the right place at the right time.

Thought that just occurred to me. Anyone think that this was an introduction of sorts into the next toyline, the Megatron Rising subline? With Megatron picking up the Matrix at the end, maybe that's the basic "what if?" concept of the line? May be totally off on that, just a thought.

It was never going to happen, but I'd have rather had the animatics brought to life than... whatever this was.
I was going to make a response about how we live in a world where a Samurai Pizza Cats video game brought cel painted animation simply out of love of the source material and how that the short not being given that sort of love was a shame, but after seeing the short in in the theatre the other day I honestly would have preferred if they didn't make anything at all.

Isn't the big Megatron release of the next Gen line a proper G2 Megatron? Would be funny if the Matrix canonically turned him green and gave him tank boobs.

I think the next line is full of various Megatrons, correct? And rumor has it that they all combine somehow?

And I think that EVERYONE should get big green tank boobs. My stance on that has been clear for some time. It was my doctoral thesis.

It was NOT well received.

It is.

This is not supposition on my part, sorry to be all "he tell me" about it.

That's maybe why it makes no sense that it's obviously a dream sequence about becoming one with the allspark until the end, when it isn't presumably because Hasbro decided they wanted some set-up.

I didn't manage to get to see it this weekend, but I might go check it out sometime this week if it's still playing. I did manage to pick up one of the collector popcorn tins for it at the local AMC though, and it is awesome! I also got one of the Matrix of Leaderships from Target yesterday too.

The CG model of Bumblebee in the short looked like a modified version of the Origin Bumblebee figure, so the fact they used the Devastation Bumblebee mold means the mold they used as a base for this toy is already inaccurate to how his CG model looked in this short.

As a tie-in to the Awekening short, I have no interest in this Bee.

As a figure to pair with Armada Wheeljack, I am pretty interested. Depends on the price.

I am not digging the Bumblebee figure, but to be fair, I haven't seen the short yet. I might change my mind after I finally see it.

Ugh, I don't actually have a G1-ish Prime and Megatron of my own at all anymore. I wonder if I should bite the bullet and grab the Studio Series ones while they're still out?

They do have the cool "one shall stand" and "one shall fall" phrases printed on the clear plastic, which could be useful in a photo shoot even if you don't keep the rest of the package. (Just need a "one shall sue Metroplex for negligence" to complete the trifecta)

Has anyone seen if this new Bee is an online exclusive, or can we reasonably expect it to show up in stores? Kinda want it, but don't necessarily $30 want it, might wait for clearance if it shows up at brick and mortar...
