Sooooo this was an unexpected surprise.

Nice pick up!

Yeah last few days kinda sucked. Power outage killed my AC, and possibly my computer. My computer just doesn't come on. I'm using my laptop which can barely browse the web.

If it makes you feel any better, lightning hit my house last month killing a lot of electronics (My Air conditioner, Gaming PC, Two TVs, GBA SP, Switch dock, Surround Sound, UHD Player, Hybrid Car Charger, and a ton more.) We had to get two cheap window units from Walmart too.

I'm considering it a birthday miracle. (It's this Thursday. ^_^)

Happy Early Birthday!

Sorry to hear all that. That really sucks. I hope the damage was limited to electronics, at least?

No one was injured, and we are very grateful for that. I actually saw it come out of the outlets in the primary bathroom while I was sitting on my bed in the next room.

GOG has been doing an admirable job of Game Preservation these last few years, and they have been working hard to make old games playable without changing them. Today, their Vault guy did a deep dive into the preservation effort for Nox, an ARPG from Westwood released at the height of the Diablo craze. One of the more novel elements of the game was its "isekai" story and humor.

Their Youtube channel (GOG Classics Vault) is full of interesting deep dives into their efforts to get Preservation Program games working on modern devices.

Also, someone found and dumped their prototype SNES title, "Project Dream" or Dream: Land of the Giants. It's an Alpha stage proof of concept, and reportedly elements of the game project would evolve into Banjo Kazooie. The individual who dumped it on archive.org, also reported that early versions of Twelve Tales (aka, Conker) also exists.

In this heat I could NOT do a day or two without AC. I ended up buying a portable AC unit from Walmart, which was a good chunk of change I didn't really want to spend, but I'd been thinking of having a portable unit around anyway. So whatever.

Friend who also got me the Turtles Arcade 1up cabinet messages me and says he has a friend who's neighbor is selling this X-Men Arcade 1up cabinet because his son doesn't play it anymore. He's selling it for a good chunk of change though, so I tell my friend I have to pass. Unless the guy was willing to do a payment plan, there is just no way I can do this right now. Especially after what just happened.

Friend tells the guy this and he decides to give me a break and agrees to a payment plan. So... here we are.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Well, I took my monthly trip to Game Exchange and found nothing that I wanted. Well, They had some things like a GB Player for the GameCube for $150 with the disk, but I decided that I would rather get one of the new Gameboy consoles that just came out for that much. I looked at their PS5 controllers, but they still wanted $60 for used ones that looked used. I will just pay the extra $15 and get a brand new one at walmart.

I did stop at that comic book shop on the way back, and picked up Spiderman for the original Gameboy for $10. He had some boxed NES, but I had most of them already. Good selection of Sega CD games, but I am not collecting those yet.

Evercade is closing out the year with a pair of carts from British System 3 (or, whatever entity now calls itself that). I almost suspect this drop wasn’t planned to be quite so early (the next batch of carts is usually announced AFTER the release of the last announced titles), but a online retailer spilled the beans.
Regardless, Evercade is ending the year with…James Pond and The Last Ninja (with International Karate).

I mean, I’m glad to see them digging into the past for more esoteric offerings…but these feel like a wet fart of a culmination of a, pretty solid, 2026 slate. Probably doesn’t help I’m a midwestern suburban boy who never had the microcomputers these games largely hail from. And looking from a modern Perspective? Some of these were decent/novel upon release that have been totally eclipsed by games released just a few years later. I appreciate that Last Ninja/IK has a dang full range of ports for most of the titles…if only it was a decent game. And poor James Pond is just a non-entity with the myriad of better or more memorable platformers available from Sunsoft and Piko.

I know that the Last gamer is a big fan of the Last Ninja, as that is where he took his name from. So at least he will be happy about this.

Isn't that the same James Pond Collection that's using AI, and that the creator disavowed?

Maybe. But Evercade tends to do their own porting, so I’m more inclined to say that, aside from the artwork provided by the rights holder, these are probably straight ports of the Genesis/Amiga versions.

We did a 2ndCharles run today and well I found some real gems in the Xbox area.

I was surprised when I checked my game app that I didn't actually have DOA3 or Brute Force already.

Really excited for Darkwatch. I've wanted to play this game for a long time now, and none of these exceeded ten bucks per game. I think the most expensive was nine.

Now you just have to find the Xbox magazine disc to update your DOA3 copy ;)

IIRC, Tecmo added a minor update to DOA3 by playing the demo on a demo disc. I think it just changed up the intro and some cosmetics

Gun Metal! I loved that game back in the day as it was the closest thing we had to a Transformers game before the Armada game came out on the PS2.
