Okay I'm back to complaining. You know that mechanism where you attach the arm bots to the arms and that unlocks an attachment point so they can split down the middle? I've managed to get it to work exactly once. I think with any future arm-bots I choose to attach to a frame I'll just skip directly to separating them manually with the lever of a nail clipper.

Also I think Blast Off is deliberately designed to make it hard to store his weapons in arm mode.

I gave up trying, I just partially unfold the arm, use the upper connection to trigger the disconnect, then put the bottom half on the lower arm bit. Vortex is a pain as he has that rotating top part that you have to partially undo his tail/arms to get out of the way. It reminds me weirdly, of the Micromaster combiner teams that used the 'jet' ride-on as the core of the combination without any actual transformer physically touching another as they combine. The same is true in the frame system, there's no direct contact when assembled.

I got annoyed and just used a part separator to push the tab and split them both apart manually. The gimmick is a nice idea on paper but not very practical with all of the hinges and panels that have to move to properly extend the arm.

I don't really see half of Bruticus doing Yoga as a selling point.
I LOVED Onslaught's base mode when I was a kid. It was my favorite of them all, bar Scattershot's.

I think it's cool to have some semblance of that while not having to take Onslaught himself out of the fight to use it.

Agreed. Onslaught's looks the most like a functional thing. This one doesn't really live up to it, but it's better nothing, and I assumed we'd always have to settle for nothing because it wasn't in the toon. They threw me a bone here.

To be honest, I didn't know about the base modes until the early 2000s. I don't think that I ever looked at the instructions as a kid for Transformers, so I never saw it for Hotspot. And its not like it was something that was featured in the cartoons either.

It's a bit of a missed opportunity, really. The way that the Scramble City leaders all had base modes that could connect to Metroplex was a really cool feature.

As a kid I always wondered why Motormaster's back half could explode like that. The other base modes were less obtrusive, but he put a lot of engineering into something that was never explained.

Yeah, I read the instructions front to back to discover all these extra features and modes when I was a kid.

Which is why I was furious to learn of all the stuff omitted from the instructions or even the toys themselves years later! I absolutely would have attached Silverbolt and Hot Spot and maybe even Motormaster and Onslaught to Metroplex to make a bigger(-ish) city!

And don't get me started on Ultra Magnus. Knowing the helmet had a place it could effectively store in vehicle mode would have saved me so much bother...

And I'd have set up HIS base mode with Metroplex, too, even if it didn't really attach!

Hasbro robbed me of part of my childhood through lies of omission.

Take THAT, poorly documented features from the 1980's! REVENGE IS MINE!!!!

Ok, the whole concept of 'connecting to' is clearly being faked, but it's close!

Well, they faked us by not telling us that they could connect, so it's fair play.

...actually, I didn't own Trypticon, but I thought he came with parts and his was documented? No?

Yeah, here we are...

I had Metroplex, Trypticon, the Aerialbots, and the Combaticons. And I always read all the directions for everything. So I was aware of all this and connected the jets to Metroplex from time to time. And put Onslaught into his base mode occasionally.

But I don't think I ever managed to figure out how Onslaught was supposed to connect to that L piece. No idea what I did wrong, but he just didn't seem to work with it. I eventually quit trying.

Wow, I remember when instructions had white backgrounds so you could actually see the image and what it was trying to do, with a clarifying paragraph above it in case the visual was not enough. And 8-track tapes, I remember those too...

Add-on Edit: You know, it wouldn't actually be that far-fetched for Hasbro to basically assume that rather than buy an extra Superion to get a frame for Nexus, that it would be MUCH better to ask people to buy an extra METROPLEX to get a frame for him. I base this idea on the concept someone said a while back about the Tidal Wave combiner parts for Armada Megatron functionally being 'exclusive with a Titan'.

I just hope it's an actual dedicated mold and not a recolored Aerialbot or something. I know it's unlikely, but I'm a pessimist.

Although, the idea of making a combiner of the MW Decepticon jets has a certain appeal. Sounds like something Fun Pub would've done.

That could go nicely with a MW Optimus retool of Motormaster using the MW cars as limbs. We don't have a towtruck/pickup mold in the frame system though.

I hope it's a new mold, or at least a suitable retool that gets the cockpit and wings right in robot mode. It's distinct enough from Needlenose/Windsweeper and the Aerialbots to need it, and has a handful of easy redecos to help recoup costs. And I might get all of them.

IIRC the Sky Fire is supposed to be a Voyager, though, so that's odd.

I would be markedly less interested in any MW if they're Superion/Menasor retools. We're past the point where we're only getting things if they're crammed into the line gimmick, and we may even be past line gimmicks for the moment (even Evo Fusion was kind of just there to say they said it). So just give me the things as they should look without a hat on a hat.
