It's time... to bring the curtain down.

Okay, so it's a parody of how many kitchen sinks are going to be tossed into this film, but honestly, considering the synergistic leanings of Di$ney, we can't really dismiss it as impossible....

I was there for Doolittle where RDJ's strained Welsh accent kept distracting me. Dude is a great actor, but the prospect of him doing an accent for a full movie is... worrying.

Just watch, we get to the theaters and its revealed that he is back as Ironman and someone else is playing Dr Doom.

I still wish we'd get *that one sound effect* where someone gets knocked backwards without anyone touching them, and then Daisy J. walks in with Phil and the rest of their closest friends.

So, apparently, presales for Avengers Doomsday are doing VERY good. Surpassing even Deadpool and Wolverine's presale numbers.

Mind you, this is basically the ENTIRETY of the hardest of the hardcore audience for the film. These are the people who: 1) Preorder tickets to see a movie in the first place (which is becoming more common, but I don't know if I'd say it's "mainstream", yet). 2) Preordered these tickets the very first DAY they were made available. And 3) Are willing to pay a premium price to see this movie, since the presales are only for the higher-tier "fancy" types of theaters like Infinity Vision and 4DX.

But, still...this is enough to make me admit that I'm probably wrong. I WAS a little worried that this movie wasn't going to do that well, because of superhero fatigue, and the MCU being on a downswing since Endgame, and the overstuffed cast bloating the cost of the movie. But, everything is pointing to this being a success. People do seem excited for this movie.

This proves, once again, that I have no idea what I'm talking about, or have any idea about what's going to be popular and what's not. Maybe the MCU has more life left in it than I thought.

Doomsday and Spiderman will rake in the cash this year. Now, the next MCU film probably won't do that well, but this is a big deal and folks want to see RDJ and Chris Evans come back. Also, they want to know why Thor is crying.

It's a double edged sword. The only reliable MCU hits post-Endgame have been nostalgia trips like Spider-Man NWH and D&W. Doomsday embraces that with Evans and RDJ coming back, and bringing back the Fox X-Men.

I don't think this movie can fail.

But it still doesn't answer the question of where the MCU goes outside of bringing back older characters and actors.

If it were me in control of the MCU. I would have a Crisis like moment to reboot everything they have into a new universe with all the characters and new actors. This lets them redo some moments from Spiderman, X-Men, Avengers, and more, while keeping it fresh since this franchise has been going for 18 years or so.

It sounds like the MCU will be doing a reboot and the X-Men will be the focus of the next “build-up”

They need to full on reboot. They can't keep relying on Obama-era actors, because they're dangerously close to just being a nostalgia brand as-is. Go all in on the cameos, reboot everything with Secret Wars... go from there.

My fear is that since the Fox X-Men exist in their own "universe" they'll just reboot THAT as part of the main MCU timeline, and leave the rest intact.

Which wouldn't be the best for long term viability. Unless they plan to just go full evil and decide to run with CGI AI Chris Evans and RDJ until the heat death of the universe.

I wish they could do a passing-the-torch thing instead, but that didn't really work the first time.

Maybe that kind of move has to be more gradual instead of all-at-once - but - has it ever really worked? Even using long-running series like Stargate SG1 and Atlantis as an example, they replaced Richard Dean Anderson w/ Ben Browder and brought in Vala, but Anderson kept coming back and the last few seasons felt like "oh, hey, they wanted to do a couple more. Huh."

Maybe Legends of Tomorrow would be a more successful example, but that depends on what people thought of the later seasons.

The other option is to have a "big finish" and walk away, but it tends to get voted down by people who want to see a version of _________ storyline on screen (and studios that don't want to gamble on new series or new movies that could just stand alone w/out becoming franchises.)
