Stock photos and descriptions of the two Nexus limbs are floating around, revealing 2 major things.

1. They explicitely say Superion's frame, suggesting that a specific Nexus Prime frame isn't coming anytime soon.
2. Given the name is more associated with a recreational vehicle than anything else, Hasbro appears to be okay with the name "Nexus Maximus" again, as that's what the combined form is called.

The Age of the Primes line is also expanding with a Deluxe-class Sky Guard and Breakaway figures, which will be out in Spring 2027. These 5.5-inch figures feature intricate details, can convert from robot to jet mode in a few steps, and their third mode allows them to join Superion to form the Combiner Nexus Maximus.

Did these two swap molds or something? The fighter jet's head looks like it was intended for Breakaway, and the vehicle mode shapes would also be a closer match to the originals if they were in each other's colors. (I mean a space shuttle isn't really similar in shape to an A-10, but they're both more rounded than a fighter jet.)

Neither head really looks anything like Skyfall's head.

More proof this wasn't planned out. "Hey, I hope all you guy bought two silverbolts, or like choosing on if you want to display Superion or Nexus Maximus!"
Did we need any more proof after they explicitly said that they really struggled with Nexus, things kept shifting, and plans got changed multiple times? They haven't explicitly said what the factors were that they were fighting against, but we've known for quite a while that the Nexus we're getting isn't the Nexus they'd originally planned, and they're trying to make him more complete after the fact. The biggest question is just how they're going to handle the frame. Hopefully, there's something planned beyond just borrowing Silverbolt's.

I do find it surprising that they swapped Breakaway and Skyfall's colors. That's a head scratcher. Also odd that they'd mold a new head, but NOT base it on Skyfall's head.

I do hope they provide more explanation this weekend about both the frame situation and some of the limb design choices.

They keep saying this has been completely planned out, but they keep making me believe they're just responding after everyone didn't love the Nexus Prime they put out. It also doesnt make sense as one of the limbs is hugging BRAWL who can't use Superion's frame. So not only do you need a second Silverbolt you need a Second Onsluaght to rip the leg off of Bruticus. Its basically just their version of triage.

I wonder if they will do a boxset for Nexus Maximus? That way they can include a proper frame for him.

I think I'm just struggling with reconciling what I've seen them say with what you've seen them say. They've said they planned out the 13 Primes, sure. But they've also been clear that plans have shifted, and that Nexus in particular changed a bunch. I don't think they've ever tried to claim that the final Nexus matches their original plan. Just the opposite.

As for the idea that doing the limbs is damage control, I'd point out that the first pictures of Nexus appeared on January 30th, and they explicitly said that limbs were coming in their pre-recorded reveal video on February 3rd. That would be shockingly fast to see feedback, make a decision on how to respond, GET MANAGEMENT APPROVAL, and then announce it. I won't say it's impossible, but it seems extraordinarily unlikely.

My assumption is that once Nexus got scaled back to being a Voyager, they started working on new plans for the limbs, but there was no way to squeeze them into what was left of AotP, at least before the extra wave got added. They've also said they're not allowed to advertise features related to other figures that aren't coming in the same year, which is why nothing about his being a combiner or his eventual limbs is shown anywhere. Stupid, but that's big corporations for you.

I would imagine that Nexus is far from the only figure to go through multiple concepts before settling on a final one and we just don't usually hear about it. They just probably did it more with Nexus and with wider ranging concepts.

And I'm a little skeptical that they just pulled new tooling out of their butts in only six months (We got our first look at Nexus January 30th.). Not to mention radically alter their release schedule a year out.

As much as it dissatifies people, I don't think these choices are a result of a rushed reaction or anything. They're just choices that were made based the same things every toy goes through (budget, space in the line, the designers personal opinions.)

By all means, dislike how it all turned out, but I don't think you need to create this idea that it's the result of incompetance and last minute scrambling and not the same design pipeline every toy goes through. I don't think it's any more than the designers just having a different idea of what's good and acceptable than you do.

Which would make sense except for the fact the limbs they came up with for him, are not compatible with a single frame. There has been no news of a frame even from a "trust me bro, its coming" post from Mark. So either there's no frame and you got to frankenstien one killing two combiners to display one, or they have to either redo Nexus as a Commander with new frame, or the whole guys as boxset, with new frame. or the really long shot, sell a frame solo and hopes everyone goes in on it. This doesn't instill confidence that they really planned this all out, regardless of how things change.

It may not have been planned out well, but that doesn't mean it wasn't planned out. All this stuff was likely in the hopper for over a year before we saw it. Again, just because you find it inadaquate doesn't mean it was rushed or not in the cards well before we saw anything.

Huh? Where are you getting the idea that there's no single frame he can use? I agree that the lack of any info regarding his own dedicated frame is... let's just say disappointing. But they've said multiple times that he's compatible with the Superion frame, including now officially in the new limb descriptions. I can only guess you're assuming the other two limbs will be Vortex and Brawl redecos, with Brawl not being compatible with Superion limbs? If so, I think you're jumping the gun. I think it's much more likely that either the remaining limbs will vary further from the originals than these first two, or they'll be entirely new molds. I'm betting on the latter, but we'll see.
