While the newest Star Wars film has had its merch push land with the impact of a wet fart, Mattel is stepping up and reminding everyone how big a deal Mattel is hoping MOTU ends up being this summer.
They released a big presser, reminding everyone that new toys will be rolled out in a month (unless stuff gets leaking early, which it will) on April 25th

Among the new reveals:
A crossover with Barbie, new Core figures, Chronicles 2 pack, and Origins styled movie characters.
First off is the Core Battlepack: Retailing for $35 (less than the cost of 4 figures individually), the set features, what appears to be, repackages of the standard Core He-Man, Skeletor and Man At Arms with an exclusive Goat-Man figure. Something I've liked with the Core line is that, by "streamlining" the deco for the lower cost, it has made many of the characters more vibrant. It's something I appreciated even back when Mattel was doing the DC film figures. Goat Man looks to be using some Beast Man elements, but it's nice to see an effort from Mattel to cover as much of the MASSIVE character slate as they can. The set is also a solid reason to "wait and see" where stuff ends up being released and which figures end up bundle exclusive.

Seemingly an acknowledgment for the limited number of "slots" in the mass retail line, Mattel has decided to release the Chronicles version of Fisto and Ram Man as a two pack format:

And finally, Origins isn't being left out in the movie push either. Revealed are Origins' take on the film versions of He-Man, Trap Jaw, and Spikor (the first figure of him seen thus far). Joining them will be an Origins styled film version of the Fright Fighter. The style adaption here is novel, and I think it speaks to the strength of the art and design teams on the film than the same basic "look" can be translated across styles and remain viable. Spikor doesn't do much for me, and the purple is a bit light for my tastes, and the "pretty boy" hair doesn't do much for me on He-Man (maybe a head swap with the myriad of versions I got?). But Trap Jaw? THAT is gorgeous and more in line with what I wanted from the 200x figures instead of the "cartoon-fication" approach Mattel took with the full Cartoon Collection. Regardless how the movie turns out, that Trap Jaw is joining my collection. The inclusion of the Fright Fighter under this segment is interesting. Like a LOT of the vehicles, the vintage inspiration is so strong that I can see fans using it as a viable stand in. The reinterpretation of the tail is wonderful, and while Origins figures look a bit snug, the slimmer stature of the Core line means cross compatibility should not be an issue. I kind of wonder if Mattel just couldn't get retail to buy into another Core vehicle, so the Fighter got reworked into the Origins segment?
