Ok, re: the Maximo pictures out today, if this is NOT having some Unicron-ish recolor I will be profoundly shocked. Heck, just change the head a bit and make it orange and you have Selects Beast Wars Neo prototype style Unicron right there...

the Maximo pictures out today

Introducing Liege Maximo—the whisperer in the dark, the architect of doubt, the Prime who fell so far he became legend. This figure needs to step into your collection as Transformers first true decepticon, a prime that mastered the art of deception. His artifact ,the liegian darts possess great power, but Maximo’s words are his greatest weapon.
.
Worked on this glorious leader item with the master Yuki san at Takara Tomy. Lots of fun and love went into this and I think it shows. I hope to get to do more outlandish creative designs in TF because this guy was just so much fun to work on.
.
I felt the cables had to be contained but I imagine them being an extension of him, each individual cord is alive and transform in and out of his body as needed. They are shimmering with metallic blue paint and have such intense sculpt details on them its soooo cooool! The sculpt details all over are outrageous, spikes, veins, earthy hunka chunkahs, you name it, this guy has it! The weapon along with the darts can transform into the front of the alien warship alt mode. I imagine his darts have thier own individual abilities and personas, I was workshopping some lore with my man Monzo Matt but I don’t know where we settled on.
.
The thirteen primes are almost completed, what sort of event will happen, whats next, is this the end of all cybertronians or the beginning, stay tuned to find out!

I read they're going to make a "Unicron Trooper" or something with this mold. Maybe it will look like that Unicron tank bot that could pass for Bludgeon?

The amount of retooling would probably be right out (the only things that work here are really the giant horns), but it'd be wild to have it turn into Unicorn's head like the Arms Micron Gaia Unicron.

unluckiness

Somehow still sane

I could see it working if they can retool the back panel of Liege Maximo’s spaceship with a face and it'll be close enough. It’s not like Gaia Unicron was all that coherent of an altmode

Speaking of Unicron, Hasbro's social media has been hyping up some sort of announcement related to TFTM, which they seem to be announcing either this Friday or Saturday (can't tell precisely from the videos):

Some suspect it could merely be a rerelease of TFTM in theaters, or maybe just another special Blu-Ray release, or maybe the announcement of a proper Matrix of Leadership replica made directly by Hasbro.

But the biggest scuttlebutt is that it could be the announcement of another new Unicron toy. While we should probably lower our expectations about such an announcement, 2026 is admittedly the 40th anniversary of TFTM, so it would make sense for such an announcement to be made in this year. And Unicron was the ancient archenemy of the Thirteen, so he'd fit in well for the Age of the Primes line.

Of course, the HasLab Unicron failed to meet its crowdfunding goal without an unprecedented extension, so a Titan class toy would be more reasonable than making it another HasLab or even just a rerelease of the previous HasLab.

Alternatively, a pipe dream for many would be Missing Link Unicron, with Missing Link Arcee as precedent, but this announcement is coming from Hasbro rather than Takara, so Hasbro wouldn't be hyping up a Japanese Takara toy before Takara themselves.

My heart hopes like heck for a Missing Link Unicron, but my wallet hopes for a special return screening in US theaters that I wouldn't be partaking of.

Titan class toy for this year is already taken up by Grimlock, and the rest of the live action dinobots own the titan class for the following three years.

But aren't they Studio Series? This thread is for Age of the Primes.

They only put out one titan a year; they specifically gave AotP the Studio Series commander class figure slot because they were taking the Titan slot for Studio Series. That's why were getting two AotP commanders this year, unlike the previous years where it's been one in each line.

The myth of Unicron failing to fund without the extension is never going to die, is it?

As for funding, I've seen the claim several times that Unicron basically failed to fund and only made it because of the extension. That always struck me as revisionist history. We've gotten to see several HasLabs now, so we should all be familiar with the funding curve, and how much it shoots up right at the very end. Unicron's extension hit right as that ramp up was just starting, and it cut it off at the knees. At the time of the extension, he was sitting at right around 5,300/8,000. He only added a few hundred more over the next few weeks, before then more than doubling over the last few days. He was ~2,700 away from funding at the time of the extension, and added more than 3,000 in the last day alone.

Now, had there been no extension giving people more time to consider and save up, is it possible he would have failed? Sure. Did Hasbro extend it to try to increase his chances? Highly likely. But was it a foregone conclusion he would have failed without it? Not remotely.

For reference, TFW2005 user TranslucentBag did a great job of tracking daily funding levels. Here's his last update before Unicron funded, and the counter was changed to simply "8,000+". I don't think we have a solid final number, but over the last day, it increased from 8,000 to some number over 11,000 (over 12,000, if the final counter update is accurate).

The one thing I'll add to my previous post is that there were two days left in the campaign when the extension hit. Again, he was 2,700 away from funding at that point. It's still not clear whether the final tally was the 11,272 number it ended at or the 12,000+ it got updated to later. Either way, that's 3,000-4,000 backers added in the final day alone. Prior to the extension, he had more time than that left to hit a smaller number of additional backers.

It likely would have been tight, and it was not certain he was going to fund. But it's just not true to say he had failed to fund, or would have failed to fund, without the extension.

I would be more than happy with a new Unicron around the size of the Armada Unicron/2011 Unicron toy, so it could fit onto one of my Billy Bookcases. I'd also love a new Omega Supreme around the same size, actually.
