LG is going to be devastated come this next January when Mattel takes over at a new scale :p
Honestly, as McFarlane's time with the licence runs out, I've got a pretty decent DC collection. I'm quite happy with it as it stands even if the scale changes, because we still don't have a solid idea of what Mattel will be doing.

Rumours say "6.5 inch scale" which could mean anything from "will work well with Hasbro's Marvel Legends" or "will be too big to work with Marvel Legends and too small to work with McFarlane."

The latter would be the most Mattel thing they could do 😛

"I thought you said you were going to stop picking up kids on the street to fight crime with you."

"HEY, they came to me! I didn't even train this batch."

Some love to the other DC line that's ending at the end of the year, SpinMaster.

These things were great. Each four inch figure was $8, and you got three mystery accessories. The figures each had universal swivel shoulders, single jointed elbows and knees, balljointed hips, ball jointed heads, softgoods caps (where applicable), and thigh swivel. Not a full on six or seven inch scale articulation suite, or even that of Hasbro's old 3.75 inch figures, but for less than $10? Pretty darn good. Paint was also decent. Sure, it was basic, but most of the necessary details got picked out.

When you consider that Hasbro's equivalent kids line for Marvel would often default to t-style hips and sometimes not even get knees, all for two dollars more, SpinMaster's DC stuff added up to a pretty fun value.

The biggest downside to them would be the designs. The base designs for all characters were the DC Rebirth designs, which DC had transitioned into using as "evergreen" designs. SpinMaster would play around with paint schemes. Batman's rebirth design would get the black and grey, blue and grey, and all black treatments, for example. Robin would get a few different variations on his scheme to call back to different eras, ect... and of course they did wacky stuff like "electronic techno" and various environmental armours, but the looks for everyone remained rooted in the Rebirth Evergreen designs. Thing is, it would have been fun to get these figures in more classic outfits, but given how resistant to moving beyond the Rebirth looks SpinMaster was, it may have been contractual? McFarlane had gotten the DC line for collector-aimed stuff, and so SpinMaster may have been barred from using more classic designs, to avoid stepping on McFarlane's toes.

The insistence on Rebirth stuff was unfortunate, but it didn't impact how fun the toys could be. You got a fun, articulated action figure with three accessories and decent paint for under $10. Not bad.

Comicbook.com got the exclusive reveal of Mattel's Bat-Link Batmobile. Scaled for 6.5" figures (sold separately), the fluff from comicbook.com seems to indicate that Mattel is positioning this as a centerpiece to a whole play pattern, with a Robin Cycle named dropped.

Hmm... looks a little different than the Batlink Batmobile I remember...

I’m hoping Mattel shows off a solid slate today. Early pics have been fine, but I was a bit disappointed by the blue and grey Batman they showed off, simply because he was still sporting that Rebirth style chest emblem. I was/still am hoping for a blue and grey with all blue emblem being used in the Matt Fraction run. I’ve enjoyed this run a LOT so far.

Fraction's been a fun time.

I assume Mattel will get away from the Rebirth Evergreen stuff, but we won't see it for a bit. McFarlane still has the licence for collector-aimed stuff through 2026, so Mattel's fall 2026 stuff is the kid stuff that's replacing SpinMaste. As SpinMaster never strayed from the Rebirth Evergreen designs, I assume Mattel's kid-aimed stuff won't either. We have to wait for McFarlane's licence to run out to see Mattel's collector-oriented stuff.

And as far as Batman goes, starting 2027 off with duelling Fraction and Absolute Batmen would be very fun!

Like with Masters of the Universe, Mattel has REALLY stepped up on their “kids” product. In the case of the DC stuff, I’d argue I’d almost prefer lesser articulation if it would get the price down a few bucks. I’m still amused to see “accessory sprues” back in vogue among toy companies :p

Deets on DC Universe (the base line) as revealed at Toy Fair. Product should start rolling onto shelves late summer. Going to round the prices a bit, nobody is going to price something at “21.59”
DC Core Figure assortment– $13. First wave is blue/grey Batman, Robin, Joker and Flash. Wave 2 is seemingly Bat-Joker, Superman, Green Lantern and likely the black suit Batman. Marketing fluff indicates cloth capes and 22 (!) points of articulation, including double jointed elbows and knees with thigh swivels. Again, that blue/grey Batman is an emblem change away from being a solid representation of of the Fraction Batman.
DC Feature Figures- $20-22. Same scale as the Core figures, but figures now sport actions features like movement gimmicks, lights and sounds. First wave is a New52 Superman with heat vision accessory (?) and Kryptonite shackles. Joining him is a Bat-Buster with flip up helmet and probably some lights/sounds.
DC Bat-Link Batmobile- $45. It’s good size, has lots of gimmicks, and is intended to work with other vehicles and accessories being offered. On its own, it has a drone that doubles as a flight pack, and likely other gimmicks not being shown off. Images from the link above (from RobDToys) DOES show the Robin Cycle docked with the vehicle. I’ve yet to see any marketing material about the Robin Cycle, but I’m expecting somewhere around $30, especially if a figure is included. Shown in images is an alternate Robin deco, which reinforces the idea that cycles might come with a figure.
DC “Action Figure assortment”- $13. 12” Titan Hero style figures of Batman and Superman (And Flash mentioned). 7 points of articulation are mentioned.
DC Crime Crusher Batman- $35-40. A big 12” Batman loaded with gimmicks

Worth noting that Deathstroke (seen at Nuremberg on Mattel’s promo page) is MIA, so it’s possible that the all black Batman might yet be a vehicle inclusion given he was seen just on the “vehicle side” of the Toy Fair showcase.

NECA's Mandrake the Magician makes for a pretty good stand-in for Giovanni Zatara...

custom time, DC edition! So McFarlane made two comics Hawkman figures (Hawkmen?). The regular release was him in his 90s Zero Hour outfit. The Platinum chase variant, however, was him in his classic outfit. The classic look is more my speed but... for some reason they didn't paint the chest and arm hair on the classic one. Which wouldn't be a problem except... they sculpted the texture in. So the classic version not having it painted just meant he looked like he had road rash.
So I got both, and Frankenstein'd together my preferred version. Arms, torso, wings, mace, and head of the Zero Hour version, gloves, waist, and legs of the classic version. It's not as Super Powers bright as the classic Platinum version, but it still works for me. Has a very DC Direct quality to him.
