As much as I slam DNA for their practices

Considering how many other upgrade companies were around during the CW heyday and just quietly faded out into oblivion at some point, it's possible that DNA's approach may just be what it takes to stay in business. If they cut these kits down to just the few parts we actually want, factories might just turn them down as not worth the time.

And yet, Chinese sellers on eBay continue to churn out independently-produced upgrade kits consisting of individual pieces specific to the buyers' wants and needs, in contrast DNA's "more is more" approach.

Eh. 3D print and resin aren’t great. At least DNA uses actual ABS plastic.
True, but speaking from my experiences as one who has ordered a number of these eBay resin kits, I've have had many more hits than misses.

I can't really afford any misses.

Then again, I can afford DNA kits even less, for the most part, so it's not like there's a place to land either way.

I don't know if it comes down to producing like this or failing. Achai and Nonnef seem to be doing okay but at a considerably smaller scale that what DNA's seems to be. Although not necessarily cheaper by the piece.

Well, the eBay kits really aren't that pricy to begin with.

Though, tariffs removing the free shipping didn't help.

ABS is more durable, flexible and temperature-resistant. Plus, unlike 3D print material or resin, you can get it in practically any color. The downside is that you need to make steel molds to mass produce that stuff and those are expensive. Larger molds with more parts aren’t significantly more costly so it makes sense to cram more parts into a mold and sell a more expensive kit.

I’ll jive on DNA for making dumb, useless parts that don’t address criticism of the base figurebut making more parts in a kit is a sound business decision in a vacuum.

It's not, I just did it because I liked it, that rifle fit for me, but it's not remotely correct. I just beat DNA to it for the 'part he never had but we put it in anyway!" bit (I saved a couple of the long guns from that pack for Onslaught too but that's probably a bit closer to right). It is odd how that one gun from the pack didn't actually fit ANYTHING. The axe and roller were clearly for Earthrise Prime, but the gun is too big for it and most all of the mainline Primes released (and my nephew has probably had it attached to almost all of them at some point trying). I wonder if it was originally planned for some Optimus we never saw? The closest might be the TR Powermaster, but his hands can't use it.

Then again, I'm the guy who smokestack extenders on RID Prime in a comic once as a joke...they HAVE to be long! Even if they don't exist! And his hands must be blue! The internets tellz me things!!!
Oh, I wasn't calling you out specifically, I'm pretty sure I've seen people doing it for a while now.

It's just weird to me, like giving Darth Vader a blaster or something.

Maybe I just need a cultural touchpoint, like G1 OP wearing Megatron's arm.

I didn't think you were, but you're right, it doesn't fit. I just can't find anything else it fits better, if that makes sense.

I still miss Prize Inside, Trent Troop is who did the handle poles that I keep misusing to help Prime get his confidence back after his Crack issue.
