I'm Making a Mega Man Thread. My fate is sealed. I have... no choice.

Okay, just a heads up, according to my usual sources the ZX Timelines, Legends Timelines, and X #0 issues should all be out this Wednesday! It's a Mega-lanche! A Mega-soon? A Mega-Blockbuster? The drought's over, at the very least!

It's been so long that I'm not quite sure I'll believe they're out until I have them in my hands, but it seems likely they're actually going to release in a couple days.

Also, we're getting a Mega Man issue for Free Comic Book Day on May 2.

Protoman versus Bass. Not a pairing we see every day. That should be fun. And a Mega Man Battle Network short story, too! I think this means the only main series line of games Udon hasn't covered yet is Star Force. But, probably eventually, given they're doing everything else.

I don't want to rub salt on the wound, but I can confirm that all 3 issues are out today. They are all in hand. They exist! So, at least some comic shops are getting them. Given all the distribution problems comics in general have had lately, maybe just try asking your local comic shop to order one in for you and see what happens. Udon's kinda a smaller publisher anyway, so it may be easy for it to get overlooked.

All 3 issues are pretty good, too.

The ZX Timelines issue was nicely done. It touches on a few deeper issues that I wasn't expecting to get referenced, and we get to see a few different forms for our protagonist.

The Legends Timelines issue is actually the one I liked the best. And not just because it's written by our own LBD "Nytetrayn", but I actually think it's a nice endcap on these Timelines oneshots. It's a fun issue full of hijinks, and I'm here for it. It's not the most serious issue, but there's a few nice nods to what came before. The Legends series in general just has a nice vibe of adventurousness that I just kind of dig. And we get to see where our little Metool friend ends up. It's nice, I kind of hope we see him again, down the road, somehow. I'm not holding my breath, but some cameos from him would be fun.

I'll avoid talking too much about X #0 for now, but it's a solid first issue adapting the first part of the original X game. I'm not totally sure why they made this a 0 issue instead of just going for a number 1, but whatever. There is something else I'm curious about, but I'll avoid talking about it for now. Otherwise, it's about what I expected.

So, yeah, it was a pretty eventful day if you were a Mega Man comic fan! What a sudden deluge after that little drought we had.

I'm so annoyed with my comic book store. They didn't take down my order?! I've visited them several times! They have one issue of Legends but apparently left behind the ZX issue? And I'm getting a copy of both to my friend too so I hope they have doubles! And have extra copies of X #0.

But I read Legends already.

Nytetrayn, I'll be honest and say that it's the most enjoyable of the Timelines issues (not counting ZX, which I don't have yet). It's got clever dialogue (don't just get him! Stand there!), good interactions (Tron and Roll didn't really interact much in the games except for the end of Legends 2), funny asides (the rumor the servbot heard and Bon Bonne being ticketed). References-wise, I realized that Volnutt only used the jet shoes and didn't even try to fire at Tron. Only Roll used the Grand Grenades. Was the guy who picked up his package anybody? Same with the diggers in the 'create refractors' panel? Also who was the beetle person robbing the store? I only really got the Marvel vs Capcom Tron Bonne attack reference.

Art-wise tho, Mic Fong still has the awkward paneling he had before (in the Dreamwave Megaman issues). Some odd and too simple blocking inside some panels too. He does good in some pics but his work really could look more professional.

Question tho, was Ciel's new type of energy a REFRACTOR?!?!?!?! OMLight!!! Was that hinted at anywhere before?!?!

Thank you so much!

It's got clever dialogue (don't just get him! Stand there!),

That line was a favorite of mine. I'm glad to hear someone else liked it!

good interactions (Tron and Roll didn't really interact much in the games except for the end of Legends 2)

Long overdue, I think. Besides, I wanted to pit machine vs. machine. ;)

References-wise, I realized that Volnutt only used the jet shoes and didn't even try to fire at Tron.

Admittedly, he would have normally (he's fired at their machines and stuff, of course), but he didn't want to risk damaging the treasure.

Only Roll used the Grand Grenades.

More to run interference for MegaMan. I figured she has the Support Car, why not let her play with the weapons inside?

Was the guy who picked up his package anybody?

Not in the script, but Fong drew him as the junk shop owner, so that means I (accidentally) named an official character, I guess!

Same with the diggers in the 'create refractors' panel?

Up front are Matilda and Banner Caskett, Roll's parents. In the back are younger Barrell Caskett and Verner Von Bluecher. In the middle should be NPCs from the digging missions in The Misadventures of Tron Bonne.

Also who was the beetle person robbing the store?

In the script? Nobody. It was intended to be sort of an off-panel thing, with the word balloon coming through the broken window, but the artist drew Ground Scaravich for some reason, and when the editor caught that, had the colorist color him like an Insecticon so that he's not the same character.

(Just using job titles here for ease of reading.)

I only really got the Marvel vs Capcom Tron Bonne attack reference.

If it had only been MVC, I don't think I'd have used it. But King Servbot has been in other stuff, too, including DiVE, so I figured it was fair game.

Oh, but did you catch the reference when they began that sequence?

Question tho, was Ciel's new type of energy a REFRACTOR?!?!?!?! OMLight!!! Was that hinted at anywhere before?!?!

Maybe? Maybe not?

It's been a longstanding theory that the C.I.E.L. System was the predecessor or even origin of refractors in Legends, but it's never been said one way or the other.

It's ambiguous, and entirely up to Capcom whether they're the same or not. I just ran with that ambiguity, since it served the story. Maybe it's the source of how refractors are made, or maybe it's another energy source entirely?

Either way, it turned out to be nothing in the end.

Flutter vs... huh, I only remember the Gustav and Bruno for Bonne machines.
Admittedly, he would have normally (he's fired at their machines and stuff, of course), but he didn't want to risk damaging the treasure.
Suction arm! Or whatever it was called, hehe. I remember loving how it effortlessly got all the little refractors once upgraded.

Oh dang, congrats! Hehe

I figured the couple were the parents. And I know Barrel. Just not the others.

Ground Scaravich? From X8? Weird but ok. I suppose Glide and his birdbots are too high class to be stealing for a depth store.

Oh dang, I didn't play Dive. I don't recall King Servbot being in Misadventures of Tron Bonne.

Oh, but did you catch the reference when they began that sequence?
"Merge for the kill" haha. I actually didn't think of Transformers the Movie. I think I had a passing thought of "Tron really wouldn't want to kill her crush", haha

Maybe? Maybe not?

Aw man, I LOVE that idea! It'd be an awesome connection if solidified.

Hope you get to do more Megaman writing! You actually beat Ian Flynn for my ranking and I'm usually all about his work, hehe

So, to correct a few things from my previous statements:

1) Okay, I called for a random generic townsperson, but then just suggested the junk shop owner if they wanted someone more specific. I figured it would be the former to the point I forgot I suggested the latter by the time it came around.

2) I was mistaken on the crowd of Diggers. I wrote that they should be from MoTB, but they wound up using townspeople from MML3 instead.

Ground Scaravich? From X8? Weird but ok.

X6, but yeah.

I don't recall King Servbot being in Misadventures of Tron Bonne.
Not in that one, no. Then there would have been no question for me about using it! XD

Wow, high praise, indeed! Thank you! 😸

Well, there's the Battle Network story for FCBD, but beyond that, who knows?

With the rate and variety of Transformers they've done, I'm really hoping I can finally own some dream figures out of this.

MegaMan Volnutt (and others from Legends, not even gonna list). Star Force Dragon MegaMan. Mega Man Models X, Z, and ZX, maybe Model A, too. Turbo Man, Nitro Man, Alia, Nana, Massimo, Command Mission X, Iris another, Tango...

I have had the WORST luck with Legends figures, including/particularly Volnutt. You'd think I'd have everything, but just the opposite. They always seem to come when my finances are at their weakest... that is, if they come at all (Jazwares' cancelled Volnutt).

Star Force Dragon from Takara slipped through the cracks, too, and is kinda pricey now.

My one and only chance at a Volnutt was the 4 Inch Nel one, which happily coincided with a time I was taking a break from something else AND a local store was bringing those in. The latter used to be a much stumbling block. I then kinda trawled some Yahoo Japan auctions for a few Servbots from some gacha set or other; they really needed to make more of those little guys.

Of late I'm wondering about the D-Arts stuff I have in storage and whether it's a good idea to sell those and get current new figures. If only for the fact that the old plastic might not be in as good shape as it used to be.

Honestly no idea what to expect from the Blokees stuff, but I hope for something akin to the Defender Versions. Those are the perfect size and price for impulse buys, and to display as a neat little group. They do enough new molds (and will probably need fewer since they could get away with similar boots at least, if not arms, for a lot of Robot Masters) per wave to capture the look of each well enough. And the little bitty size might hearken back to the 8 bit sprites and proportions.

If the monkeys paw curls and my wish for Blokees Mega Man stuff is served by the bigger scales, well... I dunno. Gonna have to be much choosier with that.

I think they’ll be in scale with the Galaxy TFs and their ultraman figures. That scale seems to be where most of their products start out. Maybe Defender-sized if it takes off.

*imagines how much tinier a Mega Man figure scaled to tiny Transformers would have to be*
