That whole line of Universe '08 was plagued by the team overthinking very simple problems. I'm not even saying they should have made everything super G1 referential. Classics '06 managed to reinvent classic designs without the figures being fiddly, weedy messes.

The insistence on forcing movie-style aesthetics and engineering into a line that should have been more simple and straightforward really undermined a lot of what they were going for.

The way I see it is that whatever line they were working on, effected the next line as well. Movie 1 stuff tended to look and feel very Cybertron; and Universe 08 ends up feeling very 'Movie' once they started to get the hang of those designs; like it was hard for the designers to switch tracks.

In hindsight, it was at that point that Hasbro was in the early stages of their Aligned mentality, wanting everything to relate to the 2007 movie in some way, be they aesthetic inspiration (the hyper realistic altmodes of the Universe 08 line) or lore consistency (the AllSpark being the main MacGuffin of Animated), no matter how loose or surface level those relations to the 2007 movie ended up being.

I actually made this in 2023, and just poorly edited the numbers because it seemed to work fine otherwise.

But let's celebrate anyway!

Blast Off is basically Vortex but better. Less kibble and better tolerances overall aside from one fist that refuses to hold his guns. I’m not thrilled about Bruticus so far but Blast Off is a neat little shuttle transformer even without the combining aspect.

Also, Hasbro figure stand ports for altmode challenge level: impossible.

Just remember that whenever you don't like something about the Combaticons/Bruticus, it's Starscream's fault.

Am I the only one who looks at Blast-off's 'animation error' forehead and just mentally repurposes it as some sort of 'third eye laser' sort of thing? Or may he's just a WH40K style navigator and that's how he sees to fly through space.

Editing a bit, two things I don't think I've ever shown here before. Done years ago when all I had was Paint and a low-quality digital camera so the toys had to be big just to show up.

The aftermath of an anime con.

Thanks! I think I used up all my skill points on that Longtooth, with some left over for Iguanus. I was very surprised that they turned out that good. Finback and Waverider are proof that I can't do things symmetrically to save my life, lol. And Pincher was mainly picked because of how feasible a design it was to pull off after those more demanding ones.

Mega Man X-styled forehead gem.

My first Transformer(s) of 2026. Technically I ordered it last month with the shamazon gift card I won at work for being a good little lackey.

Between parts not lining up on both, Ruckus not able to hold his gun (fist holes too small), and the already existing issues I have with the Tarn mold, I feel pretty ripped off.

And I paid $0 for this!

Hm. I forget if mine had the same fist hole/weapon peg problem, but I agree about the other issue. I was annoyed at how everything seemed to clash with everything else just getting him from mode to mode. Looks great, transformation is wack, unless there's a trick or specific sequence to it I don't know.

Realized I forgot to shoot the Dragknights in robot mode. They're alright but no head articulation is a huge bummer and the feet being oddly shaped, having no ankle joints or heels and the heavy backpacks make posing these guys in any meaningful way difficult.

Also trying out a new lighting setup (Fancy way to say I reused one of my old aquarium lights over the frosted clear plastic roof)

For some reason I was thinking the platform that appears just under the light would have Darth Sidious sat there watching over an arena battle of at least two people, to the death, given how big the space is!
