(For a minute I thought you meant Soundwave's play button and wondered what the yelling was about.)
Someone looked at those pictures and said "Sir! Find our old marketing manager and see if he needs work."
I don't know that they're an improvement as much as a lateral move, but I would buy Laserbeak and Buzzsaw in a two-pack, just not with the cost of the Soundwave accessory that's thrown in.
Ravage, I don't know, I feel like Device Label and Masterpiece had decent-looking Ravages (not sure how they are to handle, as I've never had one), but most of the modern attempts at Ravage just don't look right. Like, I've yet to find a modern Ravage that has displaced my (reissue) copy of the original. If they're going to have bits that come off anyway, why not just tweak the original figure a bit and quit trying to reinvent the jaguar-and-microcassette-shaped wheel?

I have a KO Device Label, and it's my main Ravage. It's a joy to transform and to pose.
But yeah, Masterpiece is the only version that transforms from good-looking tape to good-looking jaguar. I understand that it'd be too fiddley and delicate if shrunk down, but it would be a good starting point, design-wise.
Well, for starters, the modern Siege-style cassettes are about one-third the size of the G1 and MP cassettes, so just tweaking the original would make it too big to fit in Soundwave's chest.
I'm glad to see more love being given to the MP Ravage since, back when it first came out, people were HAAAAAAAATING on that figure so much for reasons I genuinely cannot fathom. I have the Hasbro version of the MP and it's honestly a reasonably fine figure with decent-looking proportions and no fake parts.
I think a big part of that is the posing. There are a lot of joints, and if you don't pose them well, you end up with this:

ravage is an upgrade IF that lump with his weapons can be removed (i know it would make him less accurate without the missiles but come on dna designs will have some $40 upgrade kit with a buncha gap fillers i don't need or whatever with better ones anyway that i don't actually buy)
honestly i might still get this set just cuz my netflix soundwave has yellowed.

Yes, but I fell into the trap of thinking he was pretty mediocre until I learned how to use him properly. I can see how a lot of people got that same bad first impression.
Is it just me or are most of the TF: One studio series toys just . . . not really good. Like the Optimus and Megatron both needed way more time in the design oven. Elita, at least mine, is very flimsy. I genuinely cannot stand that Starscream. I think I'm going to skip Airacnid as she just looks frail. Pinning a lot of hope on Alpha Trion.
soundwave looks better overall but the limbs being slimmer just brings more attention to the bulky chest. Kind of inevitable but still.
I just wish they’d be more consistent with the surface detailing. Between the reused Generations molds, the Studio Series molds until this year and now the new Seeker and Soundwave mold, we have such a disparity in detail. Soundwave gets away with it a little better since he’s mostly altmode and tape players are smooth though.
