Weird, it looks like he might not have leg articulation? Now, it definitely makes more sense, I had no idea how they were going to pull that off, but it's a weird thing for the "we added articulation to these old figures" line.

Hey, anyone who has missing link figures, I know they don't have diecast, but are they as chunky as the old figures? By that I mean did they hollow out the figures at all, or are they as solid as the originals? (Making exceptions for different plastic types, obviously)

The teaser images have the legs moved forward to mimic the G1 boxart so they should be able to move.

I do wonder how they achieved that with the inner robot in there. Guess they could retool it to have backwards knees that would allow for super mode forward hip movement.

The teaser has some white in the inner thigh that corresponds to where the small robot shins end up in the old toy. Could be fake robot shins to maintain the look but I don’t think this is the line that they’d pull that on.

Biggest mystery of this damn thing from Word 1 and they give us nothing about it.

The gray prototype might be too delicate to be able to pose dynamically at this stage in the development.

Possibly. But even if the prototype is sturdy enough, I would show it off like this on purpose. The "Do the legs even move?" comments are exactly why.

Yeah, this is the perfect line to do that with. Especially since "can also basically double as the bricky original" is part of the way to illustrate the cleverness of the reengineering.

The prototype being on display probably isn't to advertise the figure's articulation, but rather to announce that it's coming next. A character reveal.

It's the Nemesis Prime next to him who's at the developmental stage where he gets to show off his articulation. A feature reveal.

In other words, the display is saying "Look what he can do!" for Nemesis and "Look who's coming next!" for Magnus. Two different display purposes.

Come to think of it, how often in previous prototype display reveals have we seen a gray resin test shot posed in a dynamic manner rather than standing at attention?

It comes down to what you're looking for from "dynamic", but it happens. Basara Prime wasn't in too static a pose (wearing guitar, arm raised to strum), and ML Sunstreaker was just standing, but in an A stance with arms up a bit, both in ways the G1 toy couldn't manage. Neither were exactly leaping action shots, but showing more than Magnus here is.

But then ML Arcee was standing still in a manner evocative of the old painted prototype photo, so there's likely some room to change it up based on intent.

All of this could be bollocks because I have no idea how to distinguish between something gray that happens to be reported as a "prototype" and a "gray resin test shot" and even a detail model (which is an on-shelf label I saw for a gray whatever of Deathsaurus posed and holding up two weapons) and so on, and I'm not really inclined to look it up right now, so feel free to disregard.

You really can’t tell most of the time unless they tell you. That’s part of the reason why the WIP representations are all the same gray color. They’re not actually made of gray material since they can be resin, 3D printed or random plastic colors underneath. they are sprayed with primer to get them that color.
