The Optimus parts shoehorned on are what make me fairly meh on the whole thing. Either make it straight up an Optimus with a Macross jet altmode or a new character completely. Of course, it's par for the course for Japanese collabs to look like or be Optimus but this thing's such a weird middle ground that I don't like it that much. I don't really care about Macross toys, so the design is all that'd convince me to shell out and between the robot design and the very gaudy primary colorscheme, I'm not particularly liking it.

For me, it only really looks too Optimussy with the faceplate. Without it, it's a lot of common super robot elements that are just are shared, but still different enough that it feels like another guy to me.

The most egregious thing would be the crest on his forehead. For some reason, that makes it read "Optimus" to me more than everything else put together. But the lack of faceplate mitigates that just enough for me...

The fact that the whole thing absolutely screams "Rodimus" aside from the face and fake truck parts on the robot mode really makes it look like some C-suite exec came down and decreed that all Transformers crossovers must be Optimus far to late in the design process to make it actually look like Optimus beyond a vague resemblance,

Didn't even notice, since the windows are open and abs aren't visible in most of the robot shots.

Stuff like this has me torn between my love for Optimus Prime, and making me wish he'd stayed dead.

I presume you mean a new ROBOT head, as the set comes with a new Dino/Lizard/alt mode head.
